Hi Guys,
I'm just looking for some honest opinions on after run care and where the fine line might be between too much and not enough...
So here is what I'm getting at with this... If I'm running my truck daily (new toy, got to play) is it really necessary to be doing the after run on it "every day"? Like in my current situation of just getting it together (testing, tuning and tinkering) I'll take it out and maybe only run 1/4 tank. Do some more tinkering that night and be back out with it the next day. Maybe once, maybe more, but daily runs for sure.
So,,, do I really need to be draining 3/4 a tank of fuel back out, burning off the extra fuel, and cycling the after run oil (or WD-40, whichever you use) through the engine and carb literally "every day"?
I also can't get my tight butt to throw out 3/4 a tank of fuel, so I put it back in the fuel bottle to use the next day
So far I have been... But I also caught myself NOT taking it out yesterday to do a little test because the after run would have taken longer than the testing itself.
So where is the fine line and how far can I push it safely?
What do you guys do for daily running?
How bad is it to be reusing the fuel,,, daily?
Thanks,
Rob.

You can safely leave the fuel in the tank for a few days. Just top it off so moisture has less room to work its way in. Any more than a week, drain and burn off the fuel and use after run in the carb and head. Turn the engine over for a few seconds to spread it around. The most important thing to do after every run is put the piston at bottom dead center. Just turn the flywheel until it's at the loosest spot.

with daily runs you should be ok. i would at least clear the fuel out of the engine though. try putting a 1/4 tank in to begin with and run it out. or drain it back in the jug and run the rest out. just make sure you dont get any dirt in the fuel jug from a dirty line. anything longer then a day. i would ARO it. your fuel needs to be in a sealed container. one day shouldnt hurt, but over time the alcohol will evaporate out if the container isnt sealed then your just left with oil. this is the same reason i say run the fuel out of the engine. once the alcohol evaporates, the oil left behind may gum up the carb.

Thanks for the input guys... I was really hoping to get a larger variety of opinion on the subject, but I'm just as happy getting good advise from a couple reputable posters like yourselves.
Thanks for he info Gents,
Rob.

After re-reading this post and thinking about my answer, I'd side with beason. When I still cared about my 2.5, I always gave it a shot of after run, even if I planned on running it the next day. If it turned out I wasn't running it, I'd dump the fuel out and start it to let the excess burn out, then re-oil. I've gotten a little lax with it over the last few months. Just because I haven't had a problem, staying on the safe side is always the better idea. Besides, aro is cheap. My 2.5 must have been made on a Wednesday, because even after hitting close to 320 regularly, it just won't die. Same plug for the last few months too! Pure luck.
