RC Driving Style
Hey I'm 18 from tulsa when I was younger like 13 maybe I got an electric stampede the first stampede I think, and now that I graduated I have up to 300 maybe that i'm willing to spend on a rc car but I would rather spend only 150 if I could but thats why I'm asking which car do you think would be best for me I have an ok backyard but like not big (I live in a neighborhood so not like a country sized backyard) but there is a church behind my house so theres a lot of area back there for offroading. I'm not sure about the street only cars but I might want one of those I think their pretty cool I just think I would annoy people driving it up and down my street because its a one road neighborhood haha but theres a lot of parking lots I could drive too so I guess thats an option. But how much fun is driving and not taking off jumps or driving through grass?

So if anyone could point me in the right direction also if name brands matter like traxxas? I don't really want to buy from them because of the price. Also if I should get a kit to put together how hard is that?(My stampede was RTR)

there is the one that I was looking at. cheap, fast, I just dont know how durable it is I guess I would be careful and not push it to its limits and crash lol. :whhooo:

sorry if its not very organized, I dont usually post on forums

Welcome!

Nitro can be a lot of fun, but there is a lot more maintenance than electric. I started in nitro and still have two nitro trucks and a touring car, but have been using more electric these days. With brushless motors and high capacity Nimh or Li-Po batteries the electrics are just as fast (if not faster) than a nitro and you don't piss off the neighbors.

I know your situation perfectly. My nitro touring car goes up and down the street a half dozen times and then it's boring. A truck can go anywhere. I do love the realism and all the cool touring car bodies, but wish I had an actual on-road track/road course to bash on. One thing, if you do go nitro touring car, get a shaft drive car, as the belt drive cars (have one in electric) do NOT like an ungroomed surface. All the debris/pebbles on your road will kill the belts/pulleys in the first battery pack (ask me how I know!).

I would recommend looking at what your local hobby store has in stock and what they support for parts. Traxxas and HPI are the two monsters most stores are dealers for and carry parts for. Just about anything else (Losi, AE, etc.) you'll be mail ordering.

I would look at a nitro stadium truck or short course truck, possibly a buggy, as they'll be fun for jumping and will go through the dirt and grass. Monster trucks are cool, but a decent nitro one, like a Savage X4.6 is going to cost you way more than what you have in budget.

I'm sure you'll get more advice responses too, but nitro can be aggravating if you don't pick up the learning curve and if you're in a neighborhood without much room you better cross your fingers the neighbors think "that little truck is cool", otherwise you'll feel the wrath of the home owner's association!

HTH...

If I were you I'd stay away from that buggy. My buddy just got one (electric) and it's junk. It breaks so easily and parts are hard to find. He can only drive it in the street! Grass stops him and unless the dirt is perfectly groomed it's a no go. I have a tmaxx which is a 4WD off road truck and I can go any where! After my neighbors have had enough noise I hit up local construction sites.

Thanks a lot for the reply! Very helpful.

The main reason I wanted nitro was that when I had an electric car the battery would always die and the charging process and how the batteries would eventually get messed up annoyed me. I guess you would still have to wait for the nitro because of overheating..

The other was the sound and the smoke lol that just seems so cool to me lol so I definately want nitro I think because it will give me something to do during the summer. I've always been somewhat of a pyro so I just think its cool.

I was looking at the buggys or stadium trucks too because they seem like a hybrid between road and off. That seems like the safest bet.

But if your actually careful and not just gun it on accident and fly it into the fence is it that much matinence? Well I guess I should go to the hobby store first and look before I get that one online.

Oh was it that same brand? My grass is usually pretty short so I dont know if it would slow it down too bad. But your right lol I figured that brand would be pretty crappy.

Yeah I've seen it before at the shop it has a huge engine i bet its loud:whhooo:

My tmaxx is the original with the pro 15. It's a much smaller engine. It's quieter than your average weed wacker. I run mine up and down the street. Most neighbors think its cool. Others not so much. But no one complains. I take the truck every where. It does great in all conditions. On the road I can keep up with his stock buggy. When it's not in pieces!
As long as your patient I'd say go nitro. If your the type to throw things go electric. I got my tmaxx used so I had to clean it up and get it running. With no experience it was difficult. But with you tube and this site I've got the hang of it now and it runs great. It's definitely a learning curve type of thing. To walk away momentarily is key! As for parts unless I have a bad crash nothing brakes. And I mean bad!! I've done 10ft worth of flips thru a parking lot after running over the buggy at top speed. All I broke was the pin that holds the body on.

And I still haven't had it over heat on me yet. Once my buddy ran thru his two batteries we took turns with mine. We ran a few tanks thru it and it only stalled when it was empty.

Yeah I think I definitely want a nitro, they look like so much fun just from reading you guys's posts. I do remember when I saw my cousins and he had one he was driving it in the gravel and just spitting out rocks everywhere and i saw it flip you know its just so cool how fast they can go and the acceleration especially when you can do wheelies on demand haha.

I will defiantly have to visit the hobby store soon! It may not be tomorrow but soon ;)

I would say ebay but you never know what your gonna get sometimes... You can sometimes find some good deals on used, and if you are lucky they are all running.. something to think about... because then you could get a tmaxx for what you have or under... the more you save the more you have for nitro, plugs,aa batt.s,and what ever upgrades you want to do... truggys are cool to it is the monstertruck and buggy kind of combined... Good luck and let us know..

I would highly consider an rc10gt or an hpi firestone due to the simplicity and parts availability. Also to start these vehicles all you need is a warmer and patience. If you get any other vehicle that has an electric starter not only do you need batteries and a charger but they can be harder to start for the average newbie. Once I put a pullstart on my Tmaxx 1.5 life was so much easier. Also the vehicles mentioned above are around 300 whereas a Tmaxx or savage is Atleast 420. HTH. Steve.

very true but the nitro rustler and nitro sport might be alittle cheaper basically the same idea... definetly make sure you are happy with waht you get!!!!! you dont want any regrets!!
