I have a .18 Acme Condor Pro. Its new and I,m trying to break the engine in.

I have been trying for the past 4 days and no luck. I am using an N4 glow plug. I can start the engine (after much work and hurting fingers). Once on, its stays on only if the glow plug is attached - if removed it stalls. So i left it in there for longer to warm things up - then i removed it - it stays on. This is good news. However the problem is the wheels are turn fast round. I have turned the trimming down to see whether that would help, but if i turn the trimming down on the control the car stalls not longer after, so i have to keep it reving - but this means that the wheels are turn fast. And sometimes it revs up by itself and the wheel turns really fast.

The car vibrates and keep moving off the brick.

I have achieved this by taking the air filter off from the carby and opening the trottle a bit using the trimmings on the tranmitter. Once i close the gap on the carby or put the air filter back on - its stalls. But the wheels are still turning fast. I have adjusted the idle screw. This does not do anything to slow the wheels down. In fact I recall this just stalling the car. Its not like each time i turned the screw the wheels were slowing down. Its just stalls.

So then I tried to adjust the HSN (the hobby store told me this)to make is leaner - this i was told would slow the wheels down. It didnt - its just revs up more or sounds mental and freaks me out more. The wheels are turn mega fast and its (I'm sure) not meant to do this. i was expecting it to tick over idle on 5 tanks and thats it.

This is not enjoyable and I would really like someone to help me out here. Also i bought 3 x F4 glow plugs and when i attached it to the start they glow but they are not that bright, in fact I have an N4 plug and thats really bright.

Any help would be appreicated.

Thanks

Start by going over your fuel delivery and factory needle settings on the carb....most of these engines are assembled by robots and even the carb needles are set by robots during assembly also and there is no real quality control inspection on them either due to the robots supposedly impeccable assembly methods and record......The robot is usually right with carb settings for about 1 in every 10 built and I guess thats an acceptable limit for the manufacturers...Go over the carb mounting and make sure its down tight and the setscrew is too.....I always double check with the manufacturer of the engine the stock break-in settings plus double check against the install before attempting to start-up and I also pre-lube the mill with engine fogging oil before attempting to use the pullstarter,ez-start or rotostart on a dry mill......most factory settings are 2 on the LSN and 4 on the HSN...Yours may be set too rich or too lean and may need to be reset or tweaked a lil.You should be using 20% nitro blend break-in fuel for proper break-in......Good Luck and Welcome to RCNT....

Thread moved to proper forum.

Hi Riyaz,

I was somewhat surprised to read your thread in that I have acquired the same RC condor and have gone through the exact steps as yourself. I am a novice to this hobby so was expecting this to some extent but it is becoming annoying. I have not changed any glow plugs but have had probs with the pull start and have taken it apart and sorted it. I am on tank 4 of break-in and have the same probs (high revs, cut-outs) etc, so if you get any response on your queries, I will be ecstatic to know..

Good Luck!!!:):)

Hi Surgemaster
Firstly, i would like to appreciate your valuable time in responding.... I have the same probs on my acme .18 condor engine during break in. I have not touched HSN or LSN or the idle adjustment since I have purchased this rc last week. I am on tank 4 break-in and have cut-out problems and it onlt starts on hight throttle trim. Can you advise how I may need to adjust the needles and how i can begin this from the settings they have come in from the factory... as the instrcutions do not state nominal factory settings...thanks in advance and its great to know there are people out there to help in forums...

Thanks!!!

1.First set the high speed needle (the top one) so that it is flush with the top of the housing then screw in 3 half turns.
2.remove air filter look down carb set the gap at which it is open with no throttle to 1 mm using the idle screw(one with visible spring round)
3. low speed needle dont touch unless you already have or it still wont start.
4. If you have messed it up set it so that it is flush with the housing. Then open the throttle to full and look down carb there is a needle across the middle this should have a gap of 1 to 1.5mm in the middle of it. Set with screw it should be close.
5. make sure glow plug is bright red not dull
6. prime engine
7. turn on transmitter and reciever set throttle trim to open throttle a little
8. attach glow starter and pull short pulls
9. when running close throttle trim.
10. if revving high (wheels turning) turn LSN ccw 1/8 of a turn repeat till wheels stop.
11. if when you remove glow starter and it dies instantly LSN needs to turn cw 1/8
this is only a starting point and will still need adjustments to tune engine.
never run to lean as it will damage engine. (smoke is good).

vibrating of brick is normal

This thread is 2 1/2 years old.
My guess is that he either got it broken in, or he got it broken.

A lot of your info is wrong. If he needs to keep the ignitor on to keep it running, the LSN is set too rich.
High revving is not adjusted by setting the LSN even richer.

One thing we don't let go is incorrect information.

In the future, please note the date of the thread before you post in it.

Help!

Brought the kit version the acme condor pro. Essentially finished it and thought I'd give the engine a break in.
Managed to get it on, but it kept cutting out after 10-15 seconds. Eventually got it running for around a minute and a half but still haven't got past the first tank of fuel. After the final long run, it refused to start again. The pull start changes makes different noises... Sometimes its quite hard to pull with big spaces between the turnovers. Other times it's quite a smooth action and sounds closer to the engine starting.
I have fiddled with the two screws and have no idea what they do essentially... Does screwing anticlockwise increase the amount of fuel? Is this good? I know I haven't done a great job so far... So if anyone can tell me a good place to re-start that would be great!
Cheers, Tom
