Ok, I just got my new Traxxas S-Maxx and I broke it in and it has been running great! Then last night after running it I cleaned my air filter and then I accidently put air filter oil in the carb instead of after run oil. I feel like an idiot. Anyways, After doing that I paniced and put fuel in it and started it...I was very busy at the time so I put it outside and started it and let it idle. I went back to check on it and it had died. I tried starting it again and I have to lift the back tires off the ground in order for it to start because it automatically tries to take off. When idle it will die if it comes close to a stop. ( To run it it has to be given throttle) I have only run about half a tank of fuel througth it so far and I'm not sure what to do about it. Any help would be Greatly appreciated.

P.S. - Sorry for the long post.

Your clutch came apart. Pull the engine and take it apart to see what's wrong. You should never just let a vehicle sit and idle with out watching it. Should have just started it up and took it for a spin. Or pulled the plug and primed the hell out of it if you were that worried about it. Your clutch problem doesn't have anything to do with any of this, though. The spring probably just popped apart. Make sure you set the gear mesh correctly and use blue locktite on the engine screws.

ok, would that cause it to try to take off when starting? When I try to start it I have to lift the back tires off the ground because it will try to take off. Although, if it ever comes to an idle it dies.

after starting it, I have to give it throttle before setting the back tires on the ground. If I start it and place the back tires on the ground w/outy giving throttle then it will automatically die....sorry if this doesn't make sense. I dont know how to word it....

Actually, I don't think it's the clutch. At least not yet, since it really hasn't been run yet. Since you're breaking it in, the idle is probably too high and that's why it wants to take off. The reason it wants to quit when you try to slow it down is because it's too rich on the LSN. You need to lean it out.

Absolutely try Rolex's suggestion first. What I stated is a common problem for rigs that have some use on them. It may be jumping the gun. If some tuning doesn't seem to be helping, do what I suggested.

Long posts are ok. Sounds like your clutch broke or it's way out of tune. Air filter oil is the same as after run oil, but do yourself a favor and use wd-40 instead. I usually spray about 2-3 seconds worth in the carb and a small shot in the glow plug hole then I spin the engine over a couple times with it upside down. That gets the excess wd-40 out. Then put the plug back and spray the head off with nitro cleaner.
