Can anyone tell me if the MST is competitive with the GT's and the XXXNT's. I am looking at all 3 trucks to buy and like the look of the Mst the best but don't know if it is actually better than the others. I have found so far that parts for Mugen are harder to find than the other trucks but that is the only thing I have seen that is a down side to the Mugen. Any input will be appreciated. Thanks.

When I was at Tacoma RC Raceway about a year ago, there was a guy who was running an MST-1...can't remember how he compared to everyone else.

One downside with the Mugen is the aftermarket support. I don't think there's hardly any.

yes with the right tuning the mst-1 can definatly run with the top dogs although not alot of people race them due to the fact that there aftermarket support in the most places is horrible i would love to see them give the truck a makeover and beef up the support, i too like the truck but right now I'm using the gt and it's really nice!

yea I've noticed that almost noone makes anything for the MST except for Mugen themselves. Tacoma R/C Raceway is where I will be running at. I don't care too much about all the hopups I just want it to be competitive if I do buy it. Hopefully it's not too fragile either otherwise I'll always have parts coming from mail order since noone stocks anything for it!!!

Well if you do decide to get it, find a board where there's lots of racers who run that truck and see what parts tend to break the most and buy a bunch before you go racing. It sucks to have to go home cuz a part breaks and you don't have the means to fix it.

I was looking into one but the parts thing is big! Look on E-Bay not many of them. I have been to a bunch of races around the country and don't see many mugens. This is a prob. because if you break not many people to buy or use parts from. Most shops have xxxnt and gt parts in stock most of the time.

Something that I have heard about the Mugen cars in general is that they are pretty bullet-proof. I would think that as long as you stock up on the parts that are most likely to break you should be ok. Ebay has a total of like 11 things for the MST and 8 or 9 of them are clutch springs. The MST that I am looking at is on Ebay right now. It has an OS TR.12 engine, (2) Air 357 servos, and various hopups and extra parts. But there are also a few XXXNT's and Drakes that I'm watching as well.

looks like a good car but don't know I am weary of the MST1 because of parts. Thats it.

I ordered some stuff from them. I ordered two things like two months ago, and it got shipped within two days of ordering it.

Although, right now i've got 1-2 month old order I still haven't received. They're apparently out of stock, and dunno when it'll come in :(

I've got an MST too (actually, I got 2. Bought a second hand one and a kit)
I was hoping that I could just leave it in stock form, since it's supposedly a high end kit. But the stock diff rings don't last very long, people have been using Associated diff rings (which aren't direct fit, some dremeling needed).

The plastic front end is like a fuse during hard collisions (they break), so the MST I got second hand has been reinforced by alum plate at the front. The previous owner also had some spare front arms and shock towers, as well as a new front end. These must be the parts which tend to break.

Brake disc is on the same shaft as the idler gear, so it takes a lot of punishment when you hit the brake while the engine clutch is still engaged (and the slipper clutch is set too tight) The stock plastic one would strip in such cases, and many racers use brass idler gear. My stock one is still ok though.

Alum rear uprights and wheel hexes are included in newer kits, although I don't see them wear out like some racers found =/

Racers also drill the shock piston holes to 1.6mm diameter and use around 30wt oil, but I just use 10-20wt oil and keep the original hole size.

For the wheels, the stock ones are good and cheap too. But you can use XXX-T front wheels (same offset) and Traxxas nitro truck rear wheels (makes the truck 5mm wider on each side)

For the body, there's no choice but the stock Crowd Pleazer... would be nice if Proline makes CP 2.0 for the MST.

The stock MT-12 engine comes with slide carb (normally for onroad use), most people would replace it with an OS 10ER rotary carb and Lunsford carb adapter. The manual says that it requires an engine with std shaft, but you'll have to cut it to fit.

I still haven't found the suspension setting that works for me, but I'm sure it's a very competitive truck.... if i could get mine set up. lol...

I'm just not too happy about having no choice of clutchbell/spur sizes.
