Well - I had a touring car race this weekend on the Florida coast, and something terrible happened. This will serve as a lesson to me, and hopefully to all who read this. While pitting for my friend, he and another racer came into the pits to refuel during the B Main. The gentleman sitting next to me grabbed his fuel bottle just as I was bending over to check something on my friends car. When he grabbed the fuel bottle, he squeezed it too hard and shot several ounces of nitro fuel directly into my left eye. This proceeded to fuse my contact lense into my cornea. By the time we got to the hospital, it was too late, and the doctor had to scrape the pieces of lense out of my eye. My vision is almost completly gone. Down to seeing large trucks and elephants, but can't tell the difference between the two. I have another appointment on the 29th, to see if Lasik surgery may be able to restore some vision in my eye.
Moral of the story is although I bet no one here, including myself, wears goggles or at least sunglasses while in the pits, or turn marshelling - maybe it would be a good idea if we did. I know that i will be taking much more precautions after this incident.
I hope some of you who read this will learn from my mistakes.
