Hey all I just started to tear down my hyper 7. So far the onlythings that are out are the engine, pipe, and gas tank. When I roll the car it doesn't roll smoothly. As soon as the center differential rotates to a certain spot it starts to grab and i have to push a noticable amount more in order to get it to move. Its not the brakes because i took the linkage rods off so thats not it. Took the diff out thinking it was just to dirty so i whiped it off and put it back on the car but have had no success. Could it be that i just need to refill it with diff fluid or is it something else. Thanks for your time.

sounds like the gears inside of the differential are eaten, this is what happened with my buggy, it would go smooth and then "catch" and you would have to really push to get through that area

The gears are eaten? How does this happen or is it just natural wear. where would i get new diff gears if this is the case. When i open up the diff how do i know if the gears are "eaten" or not.

You'll know once you look at em...if this was a used buggy before just get a set of diff gears and replace em...get teh hardened ones...a set is only like 15-20 bucks...and that's estimating high....do a search on here for diff rebuilding..I beleive there is a thread on doing it...also pick up an OFNA shim kit....the gears should set in place and not have a lot of slop but still spin freely.....

No i bought I brand new. Only about 3/4 of a gallon old. Do you think i need a new set already? How long are you guys diffs lasting?

Is the brake rotor warped at all? That could be like drag brake if it is set kinda tight.

these are some "eaten" gears, see how about 2/3 of some of the teeth are GONE! this is BAD and there are lots of little pieces of metal in there too
