Hey Guys

I picked up a used A/E RC10electric buggy for 40 bucks off craigslist. It has a yellow/gold anodized chassis. The P/O thought it was about 5 years old. No manuals. Does anyone have a clue as to what model it may be?

It came with a nice Futaba radio and a Team Novak ESC (orange) and a decent Hobbico charger. It needs a new body.

Also what is the best battery for around 30-40 bucks I can get?

I have a A/E nitro RC10 truck. Can I put the same size wheel tire combo on the electric buggy or will they be to much drain on the motor and battery?

You can swap wheels, but might want to change your gear ratios.
Go for NiMh batt pack. Nickel Metal Hydride. No memory issues.
Other than that, peruse the company's web site to see what you have.
 
Gold tub = one of the first runs of RC10's, produced circa 1989. There were two runs of the originals; the one with the offset arms, and the one with the straight arms. You can tell the difference simply by looking at the "lines" of the arms. The offset arms will have a "jag" to them about halfway between chassis and wheel.

They originally came with a six gear transmission setup. Shortly after the RC10 tub was changed to black, AE introduced the Stealth Transmission (pretty much the same transmission as the B2, B3, GT, RC10T, T2, T3, and the GT2, with the exception of gear ratio (and cases, of course).

The key difference, other than the number of gears in the old-school trans being 6 (not counting spur or pinion), is the top shaft is actually the diff AND the slipper. The slipper actually uses balls-on-plates, unlike modern slippers which use pads-on-plates.

All the gears on the original gold tub RC10 were 32 pitch. Companies like Robinson and Parma made 48 pitch spurs/pinions for the car. This was the standard until the Stealth trans came out.

Now, as for batteries, you can do the Tower Hobbies thing for a cheap 1500mah pack (I think they had 'em at like $15.99, give or take, plus shipping).

You've got yourself a classic there; treat her gentle. Parts are kinda few and far between for them.

Keep her stock. You never know what someone will be willing to pay down the road. When I got into the nitros, I sold about 6 or 7 hundred bucks worth of Tamayas for $40. Cars, radios, many motors, bearings and parts galore. Turns out that one pair of unused stock rear tires and rims were worth about twice that.
 
I might just do that. I talked to Don at A/E and asked about a replacement body. When he asked what I had and I said it was an old RC 10 with a gold tub, gold shocks and white resin arms, he nearly shat himself. He thinks it may be worth something since the white stuff is NLA. It also has the white wheels. He thinks it was made in 1984. I'll post a pic maybe tonite.
 
Okay, a few things of note on the car. While it is one of the original RC10's, it's not one of the very first produced. I can see that it has the Stealth Transmission on it, as well as the "CE" (Championship Edition) arms on it.

It does look like the original body was included, however.

Overall, I'd say it's 100% stock, including the original tires and rims.

Great find amigo, you really do have a classic on your hands!
