i picked up a 5b ss complete with a jr xr3i tx in very good condition lately and i have familiarized myself with it by reading the manual cover to cover and dismantaling it to the chassis and back. after testing all functions i find the brakes weak (the rear tires do not lock up at all -is this normal ?) the servo i'm using is a z590 by jr with metal gears and high torque , not sure of the numbers though. the brake parts look good to me so i'm not sure as to what to do. install shims ? get a stronger servo ? or maybe get an aftermarket set-up such as tng ? . my 2'nd question is about the shocks, i was wondering if i can use motorcycle shock oil and if so, what weights in fr/rr or do i need to order online for 5b shock oil ? i thank you know for any help in these maters. what saz ya

As far as the brakes go, have you tried adjusting the throttle/brake linkage?

i also have this problem with my Robitronic Protos.... I've put it down to not a strong enough servo... also need some new brake pads but they havent worked from day 1 so yea.

As far as the shocks go, 20w Motorcycle FORK oil was recommended to me. I've been running that in my shocks for about 2.5 gallons now, and haven't had a single issue/leak. It was also highly recommended that I lube all shock orings with Team Associated Green Slime lubricant during assembly/rebuild to prevent tears and wearing of the seals..

brakes

well i took it appart last night, inspected and cleaned it, there was hardly any wear so that was good. as a fellow bobbiest segested i installed an extra shim, added two small springs in beetween the calipers to reduce rolling friction (springs donated from a bic pen) and removed the spring from the linkage, it was replace with targon fuel line for extra firmness. i got test it out at the local 1/10 track and there was a remarkable improvement. 1 min. 32 sec's latter i wrap it around a catch fence post and blew up steering servo (complete with mushroom cload :hehe: lol) no spare so your parked. i pull out the t-maxx , do two laps and do the same damm thing !! i was like - dude-whats the odds :whhooo: but i had a sprare and life goes on.......
hey imbrocken, thanks for info on the shock oil. roly
