I remember reading somewhere a while back about filling a diff up with JB Weld to make it posi, I recently got an rs4 and the diff blew out today so I was thinking about doing this, does it work?

Yes it does work. You can also get the same result by using silly putty which can be removed later if you don't like the locked diff.

Sweet, diesel I figure since the diff is bad anyway I'll just make it permanent I just wanted to make sure.

Was it the front or rear that blew? And I always had a problem with the spur gear mesh, I had to put a bunch of spacers in the engine mounts on one side to get the mesh lined up right with the O.S. I'd check that unless you pulled the diff apart and saw it was bad.

Yea I just pulled it apart and saw that the bottom gear is completely stripped in the rear diff, but I filled the diff with JB weld and it's all ready to get put back together, hopefully my LHS has one in!

here is how i adjust gear backlash. most receipts are .002 inch. dillions, k/mart ect. most copy paper is .004 inchs. set the gears so .002 paper comes out very wrinkled, but NOT torn. the .004 paper should tear in to. then if the gears run smooth you are good to go
