I'm very surprised that a 12ft alligator is the biggest they have ever seen, I can see that regularly in a state park 10 minutes from my house. The biggest one ever caught in Louisiana was 19' 2".

They grow em big in Florida too. I saw 10+ footers regularly. I grew up fishing in the everglades, and regularly saw plenty of gators, many over 10 feet.

granted yes there are bigger gators, but the kid is 5 years old, thats what blew my mind about it
