is it all right to break in my .18TM with White Lightning 20% nitro 8% oil? i ran my fiirst tank yesterday, and it seemed a little warm (no temp gun). the outside temp was like 52degrees and it still seemed like it was warm. i richened it up a little to try to keep it cool. is this more of a race oil than a bashing oil? should i have gone with another fuel?

Not enough, IMO. I think most of the break in blends are around 18% oil. I know Trinity is, that's what I used and I now run the Monster HP which is 12% oil. I'd wait to run the WL until your good an broke in. You'll probably have to re-tune a little but not much.

so go and buy a quart of some fuel with a high oil%

and it will be safe to run the white lightning once i get a good break in.

Yeah that should be fine. Realize that running a racing fuel with the lower oil content will most likely lead to a shortened life expectency on your mill though.

I run the traxxas 20% nitro, not sure what the oil content is but It has always run great for me.

I have to disagree, jetmech. White lightning uses a higher grade oil in their fuel, therfore doesn't need as much of it. When using a high oil content fuel, the temps will go up.

Also, engine manufacturers recommend, NOT using "break-in" fuel, because your engine will not truely be broken in.

I run white lightning in all my cars, big block, small block, brand new, or old.

As long as your getting a nice stream of smoke, and your keeping it in temp ranges, you should be fine.

If you're pretty serious into this hobby, you should highly consider the investment of a temp gun. They're pretty cheap, and will save you in the long run. Your engine may "seem" hot, but not be hot at all. Actually by touch you cannot feel much of a difference from 200F on up.

Don't worry about the oil content, if it were dangerously low, it would state not to break in with it.

Take my advice, or not, but you do have my testimonial.

It is recommended that when you breakin your mill to use the fuel that you plan on using for the life of the engine. So if that means running 8% oil the so be it.

so do you guys think i will be safe running the 8% then. i am really worried about useing it now, and thinking about selling it to a friend. is the fuel to aggressive just for bashing? will it cut my enging life down using the low oil?

Just my :2cents: , but if your just bashing, I wouldn't be using a racing style fuel in my truck. I agree with akmadmaxx, and say you stick with the 20% traxxas if your just bashing. As far as changing the fuels you use between bashing and racing, I've run 6 gallons of 33% and 3 gallons of 20% in my sons T-maxx and the motors still kicking. The 20% is Traxxas, and the 33% in O'donnells....I know the time for a motor swap is coming soon, but 9 gallons of fuel isn't bad considering my 11 yr old knows no concept of braking or cooling down.
