what is going on here my 21 is destroying owb's three in one day six in a week I'm sick of replacing them could the main shaft they ride on be bad???

That sounds completely atypical. Have you considered contacting HPI to see what they say? OWB's should last a while. There's definitely something wrong.

If the engine is old it probably needs a new starter shaft. One little knick in the starter shaft will destroy the OWBs...If it worn down past it's proper diameter, the bearing wobbles on the shaft and kills itself. At 5-35,000 rpm, there is no room for slop.

Also, this may sound dumb but you are loosening the glow plug before starting it right? My S25 will eat OWB's if I don't loosen it before hitting it with the roto start.

Thanks guys i called HPI they are sending me a new back plate 3 new owb's and the starter wand @ no cost this just proves why i like HPI i dont even have to pay 4 shipping!!! Rock on HPI....

i did this after the fact my one ways were getting crushed it made no change and i bearly roughed it up

I remember you said you used an emory board on the shaft. About how much did you shave off?

it seems like when i loosen the glow plug my truck dose not fire but i have tryed this

Another cause is too much slop between the rotostart backplate and the OWB. It will ride off the end of the shaft and chew itself up really fast. Simple fix is a piece of fuel tubing inside the roto backplate behind the OWB.
I put a Duratrax roto backplate on my O.S. 21 TM, it caused the above condition. There was around 5mm of space between the roto backplate and OWB, it would slide halfway off the shaft and destroy the OWB.
