I'v had a 4.6 Savage for around 8 months now and love it! But when the XL came out i said " how cool would it be to drop the 5.9 in a Savage X " I'v spoke to my LMS and HPI and it would seem I'm the first to do it in the U.K I'm going to order the lump next month can't wait to see how she gose!

Its always fun to do that stuff. But the 5.9 will overpower the X chassis and make it too much of a handfull. I have one with the .46 from a CEN Genesis and it looks and sounds great, goes at least twice as hard as the standard 4.6 but it wont do what a Savage is supposed to. Your idea of the 5.9 is better than mine, but keep your 4.6 handy and if its no fun anymore, change it back......

Yer man i will keep the 4.6 handy just in case like you say. Think i might need the three speed box as well because I'm still using the stock box at the mo, I'll let ya know how i get on and how mad it is!

3 speed wont hurt. I have one but never fitted it. Savage isn't really made to go fast, but the 3 speed gives you the option to gear it lower if you want, to spread the power out. This brings you to another problem. If the 3 speed is adjustable like the LST2, Revo, CEN etc, you need to be sure you get adjustments right so its not changing say, just as you hit your turning point, or changing from first to second ON a turn. Thats the easiest way to strip gears. Good luck....

Hi Nice one, I didnt even think about it striping gears :\ could that still be problem with the two speed? I dont race juts bash of fun so I think i will get use to the madness after a wile. (I hope) Will the dog bone's be up to it or should i look at replacing them as well? Thanks again:D

The 2 speed and the 3 speed in the Savage are pretty good, although I wont vouch for them with the 5.9 on it, and I may have made possible problems sound worse than they are, but I have seen several two speeds strip because they change under load when drifting or turning. They sometimes hook up on the shiftpoint and the strain is massive.
Definately keep the shiftpoints in mind.

Hi sorry for the late responce and once again thanks for the help!
Were to start the first motor i got locked up wile running in on a bench with 16 inch fan blowing over it in sunny Coventry England:whhooo:! After a three week wait:angry: i got the new one back, i replaced the stock 47t spur for the 50 that comes in the XL but then the motor would'nt line up right so i had to grind the TVP to make room for the motor mount bolt heads. WOW what a stonker after 2 gallen of 20% time to tune, and WOW again it blows away the stock 4.6 and my boys TNX 5.2r off the line and at top speed. I had to change the shift point on the gearbox but it seems sound, we went mud plugging at the weekend and it just went through every thing the 4.6 savage got stuck from time to time even though we had the same setup apart from the motor. I love it how long before i need more power i dont know:first_place: lol
