Was thinking of putting a 5.9 in my X. Whats the pros and cons of using that engine. I've heard nothing but good things about how strong it is.

It's an Axial... poor quality. Buy a LRP Z.28 instead or a Picco .28. Both are better quality and make more power.

I have never ran on of the 5.9 HPI however I can attest to the brute strength of the LRP Spec 3 Z.28 I would say (many will back me up on this too) that it is the strongest mill you can get for the money. But having a .35 does sound cool.

Just put one in my X this summer. Can't think of anything bad about it except for all the Picco guys ripping you a new arse**** for not buying their engine. also you have to hear everyone claiming the Picco has more power and everything else...ya ya ya everyone always has more power than everyone else. Personally, the engine is sick! I have only ran about a gallon through it and now we are sitting at -20 Celsius so its put away. The engine is unreal compared to the F4.1 or 4.6 that comes in the X's and you can go with much higher gearing and still lift the front wheels on demand. It makes for a wicked truck all together. Next for me is the 3 speed with higher top gear and some phaltline tires for some radar runs.

cheers

Boody you got a good one. Glad you did. But the truth of the matter is a Picco will run twice as long as that Axial made engine will. Better materials, better tolerances, better design......alll for the same price making the same or more power of less fuel.
I have had several Axial made engines. I have one in my Savage at the moment. I'll never buy another one after seeing the difference in Italian made mills firsthand.

I had the Ofna/Picco .26 when it first came out and it was a pretty good engine but it didn't seem to hold a tune W.A.S. ! Currently I have the HPI 4.6 and it's been a great engine . I've ran the crap out of it and it's still running strong . Everybody has an opinion when it comes to engines . Personally , I'm glad to hear that the 5.9 is a desent engine . I've been thinking about getting one for my Savage eventually .

I ditched my 5.9 for an axial 32 after 1.5 gallons and not by choice!!!!!booooo5.9

Cuz, you put a smaller version of the same engine on it. Axial makes the K series engines.

I've got almost 7 gals out of my 4.6f , how much more can you ask for, its still does wheelies on command and i expect to get 10 gals out of it, as for the 5.9, i'll just play it by ear. nither one are speed demons, but they were never expected to be, 20ft + jumps
best advice for the 5.9 is to ditch the stock pipe.
go with ether the cen genises stocker or the ofna 086, both or superior to the stock 5.9 pipe.witch imo starves the 5.9 for fuel at top end.
switch that pipe out and you'll get better proformance and run at cooler temps. you may also want to watch you midrange adjustment, alot of ppl have had problems withe it ether backing off or just plain falling out, most are putting a small amount of rtv on them. peace

The F 4.6 is a different engine. I love those. Very reliable. Perect monster engine, cheap and with a lot of torque. I broke my buddy's in for him. 2nd tank it flipped over on grass at 1/4 throttle, I was shocked. 10 gallons on it and still running. No parts replaced what so ever!
