New enough to do this website, Just was wondering on what principle do the 4 wheel drive models of nitro cars (only have a 2 wheeldrive) work? Like how does the motor power the wheels and they steer aswell. Because in school for engineering we must design our own LRV (lunar roving vehicle) with power to both front wheels and steering at the front too, would be so much easier if it was to be rear wheel drive.

Most all use a shaft (better) or belt drive system, with differentials at both ends that will allow for the outside tire to turn at a faster rate when cornering. Some of the trick race vehicles also allow a center diff option, so you can tune the power split from front to rear.

I think i get you, and would this idea work if i had seperate motors for each wheel as they need to be powered individually? Would i be better off with 2 motors at the back transferring power through a shaft and bevel gear to the wheels but when steering will the bevels lose contact with each other as the wheels turn?

There are usually drive shafts connected to the bevel gears in the diff that turn the wheels.

Something slow moving like a LRV should have 4 wheel steering the steering radius is reduced.

An MOA crawler design with 4 wheel steering would be a perfect platform to start with.

I restricted to front wheel drive with individual power to both front wheels, its what my brief and rules contain. But I agree, modern LRV have this system and its a pity we can't do it too. Just wondering if i ordered the front section including drive and that off a 4wd model would it be possible to incorperate it into my project?

Buy a cheap RC tank ??? 2 electric motors, 1 powers each side. its on a wheel... thats atatched to a tank tread. so its a ready to go skid steer. build it as a 3 wheeler ( swiveling 1 wheel in back )

Rip off the treads.... rip off all the extra wheels, install a swiveling rear caster wheel.
