The kids next door have a 1.5 t-max that was running 400 degrees lastinght!! It should have ben a great night for rc's it was in the low 60's. I'm a savage guy and don't now much about tunning the 1.5. Is there more to adjusting the carb than the hsn on the top of the engine? There looks to be another needle on the side of the carb faceing the fuel tank, is this the lsn? I don't now why it was running so hot there seemed to be plenty of smoke when they were driving it. The engine sounded good. Could there be a air leak doing this? Thanks for the help guys!!!!

Wow, I have the TRX .15 pro. It runs 240-270, at 400 t may run, but not for long.

When I first got it, it would run near 300(just bashing). This is what helped me.

#1 make sure the fuel tank lid is not only tight, but the spring has enough tension to keep it closed over jumps.

#2 Tuning, this engine is breeze to tune, but I found it's a sensitve sucker.

The LSN is a tricky finicky sucker, and it's sensitive. what was a 1/4 or a 16th of a turn on a regular engine is a hair 1/32 of a turn on the trx .15 pro.

I was told that 300 was just the norm for the trx .15, I kept fiddling I found that the LSV is a MAJOR factor in te heat of the engine.

Uhmmm sorry I got carried away I'll simplify.

The LSV is in the center of the throttle arm flush with the flange is the starting point.

The needles on this engine are extremely sensitive. 1/32 of a turn can make a huge difference, just a hair of a turn will overheat you by 30deg.

When tunning, try to shoot for a MAX temp of 290 at the bottom of the tank when it's lean, and start out with tiny tiny turns.

I know 400 sounds funny but it was true, hell the engine was smoking lol. Is the lsn faceing the fuel tank lykan? Thanks for the help guys!!

are you sure that there wasn't a glitch or mistake when the engine was made, because mine ran real hot for awhile, and then a piston blew. I sent it into Traxxas, they gave me a new one for free. There was a defective piston/sleeve. Try contacting Traxxas and ask them about it.

yes, you have to flip the carb 180 to get decent access to it. I did it so I culd tune. Try to richen up the HSN first tho.

traxxas makes a 1.5 engine? lol. u mean a .15 engine. traxxas and there new 2.5, every decides to put .15 as 1.5. 2.5 is a .15 size engine. 400 is way too hot, ur friend probly roasted his engine. How-To thread to tuning.

good luck

I've seen mills run so hot they smoke. Saw one last summer that the guy had leaned up so tight that I thought it was just gonna melt. And the cooling fins were smoking. it can happen. I've also seen heli engines that self destruct too. All it takes is a tiny aluminum flake to get between the piston and sleeve and it'll melt.

Was the mill new or used when they got it? I'd pull the head and see what the cylinder looks like (chaffing, scoring, etc.).

The old Pro .15 came with a blue head. When the head was new it was dark blue. What color is the head on their engine now? Is it still dark blue or is it lighter like a baby blue? If it's light like a baby blue then it is running way too hot. Go help those kids richen that engine up!

400='sOUCH. I've gotten a Trx 2.5 up to 400+ degrees when we where drunk one night and using my buddies T-maxx to pull shopping carts (Further evidence for the young guys to stay away form Alcohol).

been there done that 405 and 402 w/my 2.5 for some reason this yr this pos doesn't wanna run cool. I keep retuning trying to keep the temps down. But hey it still starts. Even though the LHS guy told me oh that motor is shot you will never get it to run again....how would you like to buy this nice M16 motor for your truck?.

I actually had that happen on (gasp) my Sirio....

Nice cool day at the track, started bogging down after running great for a couple of laps, brought it in, and the engine was smoking from the fins. Temp gun (properly calibrated) read 397F.

Turns out one of the cooling head bolts was loose. \:

Tightened it back up, and everything was fine after that. Obviously address that as soon as possible.

Sirio still runs fine (believe it or not) after that... a testimony to the quality of the engine. </advertisement>

i read some where in the forum that the pro .15 runs really good in the mid 300 degrees. so maybe it wasn't that overheated.?.
