Ok, so as the name says, I am pretty new to the Nitro world. I have had a Savage .21 for the last 8 or 9 years and rarely used it. It runs great and never had any issues out of it, but I am a little out of my comfort zone with the problems I have had with this 4.6. Now I bought this truck used from someone off ebay and the truck ran pretty good for the first few months. It was put up for a while and recently I've been wanting to get back into it. Long story short, I have been pulling my hair out with tuning issues, spur gear issues, starting issues and who knows what else. To tune this truck takes about a half hour and a tank of gas to get close to running "good". It doesn't want to start the next day without major adjustments and sometimes holding the throttle a little. So here is the details as of right now....I just ran it for about 5 mins and heard a big clank. After pulling the back plate off the motor I have found that the stub the connecting rod attaches to the crankshaft with is broken. Now I haven't fully tore apart the engine yet to determine if the sleeve or piston has been damaged, but my question is this....With the issues I have out of the motor, if there is a need to replace the sleeve and piston, should I just upgrade and buy a new motor?

I have found the parts to fix it for about 50-70 dollars through ebay and other sites and I recently bought a brand new hpi carb (smoking deal at $15 and not installed yet) thinking it would help me with the tuning issues. So should I spend the money to fix it or should I just upgrade?

I have been looking at the LRP .28 Spec 3 engine. I have read nothing but great things and its reasonably priced. Any information would be helpful. If there's somewhere I haven't looked for cheaper parts to rebuild or whatever, I would appreciate any and all help.

Thanks.

IMO just buy a new engine. Buy it at a r/c hobby store. This way you are covered for warranty if needed. eBay is good yes but sucks if u have to return something. Don't fart around with buying parts here and there just start fresh with a new one. Again just my opinion.

And welcome to the site.

You could fix it but there is no guarantee that it will last unless you change everything. Loose bits inside a crankcase usually kill a motor.

As BIRDMAN advised, new motor is the way to go!

I was thinking of just getting a motor now that I've dug into it a little more. Any recommendations. Like I said, I've been looking at the LRP .28, but I'm open to any other recommendations. Thanks.

I have such great luck with my k4.6 I sealed it and its always flipping on me. I have wanted a picco boost for awhile now, the lrp is a great choice tho strong mills and hold a great tune

I've been looking and came across a couple picco motors. They seem to be a nice motor as well. Ever since I've had this 4.6, its never even been able to pull the wheels on it. My old .21 3.5 did it all the time. I know the 4.6 is a good motor. I've been kicking around just buying another one of those too. So many choices. Lol.

Anyone else that's also bought a picco will tell you to go with that! It's a great engine, I opened up the first of the ones I ordered almost 3 weeks ago now....haven't gotten to run it that much unless you can count a break-in tank

Another top choice is the novarossi line up.

Both of these are Italian...hmm I'm starting to notice a trend.

I would stay either Picco or LRP engines. My buddy has a LRP .32 in his Savage XL and I can tell yah It is insane powerhouse. Think he has ran 2 gallons in it so far with no issue's he hardly ever touch's the needle settings. I am currently working on a custom BB Maxx going to be running an LRP .30 spec 2. I think Picco just came out with a Picco .28 Boost I figure that engine will be a power house to. :D

I guess you will have to decide what kinda $$ you want to spend. I like an engine that I can get parts from eBay or it can all add up quick

I've looked at the bigger lrp motors, but wasn't really sure how big to go with not really doing much but light bashing. Me and a few guys are looking into some sled pulling and tugging, but not sure where that's going yet. Money wise, I'm thinking around 200 is a good number for me to spend on a motor. I know my hobby shop has most of the lrp motors in stock, but they were kinda scarce on the piccos. I pretty much know I'm buying a motors for sure. Thanks for all the info guys and I'll update as soon as I pick something out.
