I wanna hear from guys who upgraded from the 2speed to the 3speed. I have done searches and been through alot just to get mixed reviews. As I understand it performs about the same as the 2speed,only benifit is the sound of the shift to 3rd?Does anyone have any input on actuall performance gains they have seen from the upgrade?

first gear is lower for more torque and third is higher for better top end.

i loved mine but i just sold the savage so its sitting the the 3 piece case (so you can change shift points withouth removing the whole tranny) collecting dust

I had it on a Savage 25 ported/polished and that thing screamed like a raped ape!. The grunt at 1st gear was really strong and hard. Once it goes into 3rd, it goes. I used it for jumps when I had a long stretch. IMO the X case and the 3 speed are the best match. The X case allows you to acces the tranny from the top without having to remove it from the chassis which was a BIG plus.

On my old Savage, I used a Mugen clutch set up from an MBX5. It was a perfect match. I suggest running the slipper a little loose if you are going to jump a lot.

3 speed is a great upgrade for any savage.

constant wheelies with the suspension softened

the thing kicks butt!

love the one i installed on my buddies 4.6 X

jon did you actually do the swap from 2speed to a 3 on your older .25savage? btw I run my slipper locked,I have a stock of spurs and diffs. I'm not iterested in top speed, the added torque would be nice,I am currently running the smallest cb/52t spur. I run off-road and I mean off-road, not in the yard or on a track but at bashing sites in the woods we find when we go out riding our atvs', how are they about downshifting under load, like hillclimbing?

I did both on my savage 25 and then to a savage 21. I bought the X case. It was just worth it IMO. Downshifting...can't really say. I normally tapped the brake briefly to lower the RPM's. That normally brought me back down to 1st.

Not really. I liked to have mine shift about 10 feet out most of the time.Since the powerband is achieved pretty quickly that distance can change fast.

Kool, I have been checking into the tranny since it was released,I'm will more than likely try one out later. Thanks for all the help.

I'm just in the process of replacing all the gears and finger clutches, everything is worn down and the shifting is slipping.

The 3speed tranny gives about 10% more torque and 10% more top speed...:2cents:

I've got the 3speed in the X case in my Savage X STS D30M modified. You get more low end in first gear and a little more top end in third. Definitely worth it. It's easier to work on and change shift points when it's in the X case. It downshifts really well. This thing pulls wheelies every time it shifts............
