Wondering if its worth it to put a 3 speed tranny in a Savage X (F4.1 engine). Does it really give you more top speed? Can the 4.1 handle it, or is it a very minimal difference?
Also I see its half price for a unassembled one...are they easy to assemble?? Is it better to buy one and assemble it yourself if you love to work on these things??

Thanks

I really doubt you would see much of a difference with the 4.1. I put one in my Savage with an LRP Spec 3 and geared 19/46 and it is insanely fast now. If I were you I would invest in a new mill before getting a 3 speed.

if u had the 4.6 it would be worth it before i got my 3 speed i could only get my savage up 2 42 but now i can get it up to 50 +

so with your 4.6 you got 42mph and with the 3 speed you now get 50+?? Right on, that's what I wanted to know. I will stick out my 4.1 until she calfs and then go for a 4.6 of some sort and a 3 speed.

cheers

Ya I thought that would just be overkill, but hey...you can never go too fast. 5.9's are only about $50 bucks more. Be nice to find one for about $200. Is that a straight drop-in engine for the Savage X, and can you use the same pipe assy??

Thanks guys

yes the 5.9 is a direct drop in. think about it. the TVPs and engine mount plate ont the XL are the same dimensions except longer. all they did was put a bigger mill and extend it(and duh thats not all, just the big differences)

as far as the 3 speed goes.....people are attracted to nitro cars as it is. it sound almost like a real car. and when a 3 speed tranny to go along with this 1:1 car impersonator, they'll shoot hotdogs out there skirt.

to go along with the 3 speeed, get some big tires that will expand alot to give you more top end. bigger tires means more speed. if you get the 5.9, it would have enough power to let you run a 20/47 gear combo AND still pop wheelies.

Wow, I think i'm turned on!!

Hey how about the pipe can I take the Dual chamber tuned pipe off my 4.1 and use it?? and what about the starter will the roto start back plate work from my truck???
