I'm getting ready to buy a replacement for my rig, and I'm not looking to go with yet another 3.3. I've grown tired of constantly having to tweak my fuel mixture, and they don't have the longevity. I keep my temps right around the 250-270 degree range. I run it a mix of offroad and straight out speed on flat surfaces.

So far I've narrowed it down to two choices: OS 21tm or a Picco 26. I know one has more power than the other, and is not a direct drop in until you buy the mount (Picco). The OS is a direct drop in, and I have OS engines in my airplanes and they are quite easy to tune, and then they keep the tune well.

The price isn't bad. I've found the OS engine on fleabay for $259 with free shipping. I've found the Picco for $179, and then whatever the additional cost for the mount, which is probably $20 or less I'm sure.

So, I'd like to hear some feedback from someone who has either engine, or from someone who has had both, how the Picco is as far as ease of tuning, and how they performed.

It would be a great help in picking one over the other.

From what I know from Picco. .26 engine they extremely powerful on the bottom end. I would say the O.S is deff going to have more top end. I know from what I have heard the bearings in the Picco engine have a habit of retiring early.

Most of the picco's leaking problems is due to people using the stock pipe beings its labeled as a "drop in" engine. My
Picco ran great and was easy to tune AFTER I replaced the Traxxas resonator exhaust

What pipe did you go with?

A ERCM 221T pipe. I still used the stock header.

I love my picco .26 but it has started leaking around the front bearing pretty bad on the third gallon. Its not from back pressure either because I'm running an 1/8 scale manifold and pipe. The small block exhaust was causing the carb slide and boot to leak before. I'm replacing the bearings next week with a set of boca ceramics I'm trading from Dub on the site here for a hitech servo I'm not using. So if you do go with the picco plan on changing out the bearings after the first couple gallons of fuel.

Yah. even the Picco maxx .21 bearing were bad about also. I know I am currently running the .21 engine on two rigs.

Three gallons through it before a leak isn't bad. I'm yet to get through a second gallon with any 3.3 I've had yet, and I'm on #3.

Go with the os less headaches and it is a true drop in engine

I think that is the route I'm going to take. With the exception of the very first engine I ever learned to tune, an OS, I've never gotten less than 4 gallons through any OS engine I've ever had. I've flown my Nexstar Select to death and it's on the 5th gallon. I know others who have gotten 6 or 7 on an OS 18. I tend to run all of mine on the rich side, but it doesn't matter what I do with that damn 3.3. I may be wrong, but I suspect the resonator pipe to be a big part of the constant tweaking issue.
