This thread is great as a lot of things have been explained well. I was using Byrons 20% and just picked up a bottle of 30% because it has more oxygen. I figured since I'm sitting at 6,500ft (1981m), it would help. Now I see it'll help out a little bit more than I thought.

so at sea level is 30% of 20% better? and for general bashing is 30% better than 20%?

At sea level 20% would be fine for all around use. 30% will make it scream.

At 6500 feet you almost have to use 30% if you want good performance.

so we had some 60 deg weather yesterday so i took the jato out for some tuning, I went through two glow plugs getting it tuned to 30% but now she really rips, things I found is there is alot less oil on my car after running and that my transmission shift point is way to early.

When making the switch you should richen the HSN 1/2 turn and then re-tune from there. It sounds like you weren't rich enough if you were popping plugs and if the gain was big then you are still running leaner then before. At 6500 feet above sea level you should be able to run 30% and raise the compression quite a bit with no issues.

I think it was more my LSN was to lean being to lean not saying that I didn't have to richen my HSN also but when i brought it into add fuel and shut it down is when I would foul the plug and wouldn't start back up. I think its lined out pretty good now it will sit and idle at a low purr for 10 to 15 sec or more then starts to load up and at WOT I still have a nice stream of smoke with good throttle response.
back to the squish so do use plasti gauge and put a small piece on the piston reinstall the head and run the piston to tdc and pull the head to check your clearance?

I had it running all right with the 20%, so I can't wait to put some 30% through it. Just got it put back together after bad dog (truck) was introduced to a fence by a friend of mine.
