HeyGuys! Been reading on this forum about 3.3 engine temps. Most temp ranges have been 240-270. The lhshops in my area (socal) say anything over 230 is causing engine damage!Recently upgraded to 3.3 on my tmaxx did traxxas breakin w/temps around 200-220.Took it out next day & ran 5 tanks w/temps hiitting 240-270 range w/ dec. power. Am i burning my engine up? Thanx
 
Nope, your not. 230 in not going to damage a 3.3 or any other nitro engine I know of. Thats actually pretty low for a 3.3. With the temps you stated, it sounds like your engine is running good. Over 300 is when you'll have a problem.
 
Yeah once you get it tuned good then try to stay under 280. 300 is risky if you see it that high then baby it a few minutes. Mine will run 230-260 all day but if they work too hard like in tall grass they'll hit 280-300.
 
Thanx for the info! Yeah at the spot i like to run it when I'm running on flat ground temps are staying round 220-230 but when i start doin a littlle hill climbing & lite bashing it runs up to 250-260 range. highest I've seen is 268! thats hoping my laser temp gun is accurate! anybody know of a good way to check a temp guns accuracy!
 
Shoot it up in the air outside and see how close it is to the outside temperature. Any quality temp gun will be within 5 degrees+/-. Sounds like your right on the money with your temps. If it creeps towards the 280 mark after some hard driving, watch the temps for a few minutes while it idles. If they don't drop, richen the lsn about 1/12 of a turn.
 
+1 on the temps they seem to be right in the neighborhood, hard bashing at 260~280 all day long on the 3.3 doesn't seem to hurt them. I have a 3.3 in an old Tmaxx 2.5 chassis that is 3 years and about 6 gallons old. The thing has plenty of compression and holds a tune great after running at that temp all the time.
