Rolled the heck out of my first nitro RC. I got a new cooling head, hardware protector ect.

How tight do I need to tighten the bolts? I dont want to strip them.... but I know they gotta be tight......

( I'm a mechanic, just can't find a torque spec anywhere )

If you're a mechanic, then you'll know they need to be snugged down, then tightened, then re-tightened in a star or criss cross pattern to seat it flat. No particular specs, it's just a 'feel' kind of thing, where you know it won't come loose, and you know you won't strip out the threads in the block.

Yea, I am aware of the procedure...... boy these parts are tiny LOL I just KNOW I am gonna strip em.

I got about 2 tanks of gas out of the truck before I decided to destroy it. I have a roll cage on the way. Just got one of the "fail safes" and new drive shaft screws are also coming......not sure how that fell out......I thought I stripped my rear diff gears..... wound up being the stupid pin in the drive shaft.

lol yea all that has gone through my mind LOL

Should I use an allen KEY and just turn as hard as I can? Will this be adequate?

Or is it safe to go with a small socket wrench?

From my experience, you need a little more than you can get putting an allen key lengthwise inside the cooling head. I hold the end of the key in a small pair of vice grips just to give it that little bit extra.

EDIT:
Recently I got a set of T-handle hex wrenches and I found it's much easier to gauge the torque you're applying.

i suggest a set of metric hex drivers sizes 1.5mm,2mm,2.5mm and 3mm-using L-shaped hex wrenches gets old real quick.there is no exact tourqe settings when tighting the head-just make sure u dont over tighten. the shaft pins just loosen up normally-just give um a once over b4 running the truck each time-been there plenty of times. i usually go over all screws b4 running-esp. the bulkhead screws.

Like everyone else said they do need to be tight but.... I have stripped them before and it sucks... You have to tap it out a bigger size and then you have an odd sized screw in that hole (I know I'm gonna hear it for that expression)
