Okay guys, so I got a T-Maxx 2.5 probably 5 years ago and used it for a little while before I decided to buy a 3.3 motor and install it. So the motor got installed a few weeks after it came and the truck was put on the shelf. Recently I decided to break out the RC stuff again and start getting back into it, which began with the revival of my 1998 RC10 T3. Back to the Tmaxx, I need to break in this engine and I've got the standard procedure down with the 3-5 minute heat cycles and everything. However, I have not a single clue how to tune my carb, and I understand it is crucial to breaking in a motor. I don't know if it's at factory settings or not. So could somebody help me out and tell me how to tune it, and how to tune it for a break in? Much appreciated :D

unless you messed with the needles after you bought it it should be at factory settings which are rich. With having no knowledge of tuning i would do the standard break in letting it idle threw a few tanks on a box. You can heat cycle but you need to do alot of reading about tuning b4 you heat cycle. This is bc you have to get the motor around 200 degrees to heat cycle which is done with needle movement

Don't do short "heat cycles", its to rough on the engine and starter. Instead focus on getting a nice idle and get the temps up. Wrap the head with some Alu foil to regulate temps rather than tweaking needles. Get it running and keep it running for 30-40 minutes without shutting it off, or longer if your patient enough. You will chase the tune less if you just keep it running. plus you will hear the idle up as it begins to loosen up and as this happens you will be more prepaired to make the small changes nessesary.

Thank you for the help guys. What I should say though is I know about the whole high speed needle/lowspeed needles. But which would I want to adjust to get higher or lower temps while breaking in? And I prefer not doing the whole run it on a box style, for what I've read that is hard on the motor. I understand carbs, but I do not understand nitro rc carbs.

You do not adjust needles to achieve a desired heat range! Surf You Tube for break in videos. you,ll find more info there than here.

Thats somewhat true. You will never tune a nitro motor to a specific temp bc its impossible they will always be up and down depending on what kind of running your doing. You will tune it to a temp range which is achieved with the HSN and LSN more the HSN though, the LSN is really just for a clean takeoff, once your reach about 1/3rd throttle the hsn takes over. If you just can't do the box break in then do the heat cycle make sure you are on concrete tho not grass not dirt. You dont want any more force on the engine than there has to be and you also dont want any spin. Your prob gonna have to lean the needles a little to get the temps up to where they need to be and or wrap the head with some tin foil. WATCH YOUR TEMPS CLOSE
