Hey Forum,

I am a 1/8th Scale Nitro Club racer ...but looking at 2wd indoors for the winter maybe.

I know nothing about 1/10th indoor kits or RTR what sort of things brands kits am i looking at ?
i am a novice racer so not too fussed about world championship grade stuff just easy to run and use.
is there a 2nd market anywhere tried ebay but couldn't really find anything.
whats out their everyone,

AE Losi X Ray. a few others. Id try a Losi. this is not a easy class .it can be very hard unless a driver already has set skills. open wheel is a difficult class. no 1/8 scale. 1/10 scale

AE with the B6.4 kit
Losi with the 22 5.0 (not current)
Schumacher with the LD2
Xray with the XB2
Yokomo has a couple 2wd buggies

Which surface? Carpet, clay, turf?

I would go with a brand that the locals use, and which car / brand has the most parts availability near you like online and LHS's / tracks.

Today standards are all kits. RTR really won't do good compared to the kits. AE has a RTR (RB10 RTR)

Now for 2wd, there can be stock or spec class which is all 17.5T motors (per local tracks and race director rules) And there can be mod or open class. Mod or modified are lower turn motors. Open class which is usually any motor and any modifications. (All over track and race director rules)

Edit: Oop, you said carpet in the title.

Ask around what tires they are running, if slicks then 2WD would be a great choice. If they are running traditional pin style carpet tires then ask about tire wear.

In my experience on the local turf track in my area, the 2WD cars can get between 2-4 race days on a set of tires, however 4WD cars will get double the wear life which can be a significant cost savings.

That said, if you're looking to save money on a new kit, I've had really good luck with PR Racing, though I only run 4WD to keeps costs to a minimum:

There's only 1 distributor for PR currently though I've never had a problem getting parts from them in the past, but the 1/10 program in my area has died off so I can't offer recent support feedback for PR. When I travel, I still take my 401R with me and it's proven to be competitive at the club level :)

If the 1/10 program were to make a comeback in my area, I would go with HB Racing D4 EVO3 as my weapon of choice with money being no object:
