You will definately hear it. There's no question that it shifted. Proper engine tuning also affects the shift. Does the engine perform well? If it does, then you need to adjust the shift point.
There's a rubber cap on the trans. Pop it open and rotate the spur gear till you find the hole. Hold the spur gear at that point and rotate the end shaft sticking out of the front of the trans to line up with a grub screw.
To adjust the shift point, think of it as a clock that's now at noon. You want it to shift earlier, so turn it counter clockwise, or back to 11. 11 is earlier than noon, so it will shift earlier. Try the car and see if it shifts. If not, adjust it a hair more. Be CAREFUL. just do it a little at a time. If that grub screw comes out, you'll need to tear down the trans to get it back. It usually takes 2 or 3 adjustments to get it to where you want it.
