I purchase two HPI Savages a few days ago and have been trying to get them running so I CAN BASHHH!!!!

The one is a Savage XL with an OFNA .26 engine.
It has a shaft starter and for some reason when i goto start the motor, at low rpm the it seems to have good compression, but as i spin it faster to try to start it, the flywheel stops moving. To me it seems like it has too much compression. Anyone have any ideas PLEASE!!!:\

Thanks in advance,
Dan

Sounds like the one-way bearing is slipping. It's inside the roto-start plate, just take it out(you'll have to pull the engine to get the plate off) clean it with denatured alcohol and put it back together.

Pop out your glow plug, see how wet it is and if maybe your cylinder is getting "flooded". Turn the Savage on it's side and crank it, does fuel spit out of the cylnder head? Put your plug back in and BASH! It almost sounds like it's getting flooded...Hope this helps Ya :D

I tried both solutions neither seemed to help.. I removed the engine. removed the rotostart plate. Removed the shaft with the gear the meshes with the rotostart plate and cleaned everything.

Is there anything else it could be?
Might there be too much compression that the one way bearing slips?
Could I shim the head to lower the compression?

Thanks,
Dan

By the way this has been the issue since I purchased it. I'm nut sure if the motor is even broke in the whole way.

What did you clean the owb with? I used carb cleaner for awhile, and switched to throttle body cleaner when the other ran out. The later didn't work. Make sure your using something strong enough.

well i didnt have denatured alcohol so i used fuel. I read a few places online that was good to use. If not ill take it back apart tommorow and try again with something else.

Fuel will work just fine. I used some old fuel to clean parts all the time. It also works great to remove blacktop marks off of bodies.

+1. Fuel should work. If it's real gummy, it will have to soak for a while. Carb and choke cleaner and a few blasts of air work real well. Gotta make sure you get to all sides of the rollers.
