i got my hpi savage 25 i love it it is awsome. my favorite nitro truck ever!!! i was having so much fun when i was breaking it in and then when i had to tune the LSN and HSN thats where it started going from favorite truck to junk. i tunned the nitro star 25 engine to what the book said and i was having problems tunning it so i took it into hobbytown. i come home from school and my mom tells me they called and i seized my motor! i was so mad! i was waiting all day at school to pick up my savage and drive it. but instead we have to buy a new motor. now i have a hyper .21 turbo engine. it is awsome way more power than the 25. i wanted to get a better engine, but i never thought i would. i love the new engine but I'm still kinda mad that the hpi nitro star instructions werent accurate. be carful when you tune it or take it to your local hobby store. the more i drive it the faster i make it and I'm not even trying, all the things that break that you can make better. i had problems with my spur gear too. i can't belive they are plastic. i got a 52 tooth medal one now. best decison i have ever made. if you get a savage be sure to get a medal spur gear and be cautious when tunning. my favorite MT now is my savage 25 which isnt a 25 motor n e more its a hyper 21 turbo. so my savage hyper 21 turbo is my favorite truck. doesn't that sound cool? (the hyper 21 turbo part). with that new motor and my new spur gear my savage should last a while. great truck. could be better though (stock). i highly recommend the hyper 21 turbo engine and the 52 tooth medal spur gear.
peace, mark. how hot is too hot also. i really like my new engine and i dont wanna seize it the hottest it has gotten is 242 (already broken in). be careful with the gas you use too. when i got my savage back with the new engine i was using eliminator plus and it was runnin 300-400 degreese. i imediatly killed the savage and put traxxas top fuel in it and it was running around 150-200 on the head and around the same on the block. again the highest my new engine has gotten was like 242. is that good? i have experience with driving nitro cars/MTs but not engines. thank you mark.

You want to make sure that the engine stays over 190. I try keep my motors below 250. But what you are explaining is good.

I'm suprised they let you back in.

the reason you killed your first engine is because you had fun breaking it in. any fun involved in the breakin process means your not taking it easy on the motor like you should.

when taking the temp of your engine, take the temp from directly above the glowplug, the top of the head doesn't matter and neither does the block, only the temp of the glow plug, thats most accurate.

your hyper may be good for you, and its an ok budget engine, but there are a more reliable engines available that make more power as well.

yeah, ya must have done somthing wrong.. The 25 is one of the best engines I've owned.. The hyper 21 is a good motor too, but shouldnt even hold a candle to 25

The S-25 is not the strongest motor around, but it is certainly not junk. The motor hold a tune very well and it will last a very long time. Running a metal spur is not a great idea. If the drivetrain sees a lot of stress you will now strip something inside of the transmission instead of the external spur.

how much does the hyper 21 turbo go for? and is it easy to tune?
it is 139.00$ you might be able to get it cheaper but that is how much i paid. it is easy to tune too.

the S-25 Savage engine like to run around 285- 300 I found and I put 8 gallons on my S-25 like that before I got my Mach and I never had a problem with the S-25 motor. Only reason I upgraded is because I run LCG TVP's and because of taht my local racing class puts me into mod class.
