Here we go! I've had this motor on the truck for a long time (6-7 years). It sat in storage for most of that time. I got it out and decided to get her going once again. I bought new fuel, installed a new pull starter, new glow plugs and ensured everything was in good working order. I ended up getting the truck running pretty well. I decided to take the engine apart to clean everything. I took the carb. and the heat sink off. Did not take any internals out or anything. I cleaned everything up and got it back together. Here is where the problem starts. I cannot, for the life of me get this thing running right again. I have done everything I know how to do as far as tuning goes to get it running right but it just won't cooperate. The main thing I notice is that it is extremely sluggish at high throttle and it gets VERY HOT, very quickly! Does anyone have any suggestions?

I want to try to get this engine running right again, but if I can't I will be looking for another engine. I would like to hear some suggestions for new engines of at least .21 or larger.

Thanks!

I would say an air leak is for certain ,did you take off the backplate at any stage? .best thing to do would be gt some copper rtv silicon and put a light smear on the backplate o ring and also on the carb neck ,let that dry and I would also take the needles out and get either some team associated green slime or dielectric grease and give the o rings light coat and reset them back to factory spec and give that a go.
did you put the head gasket back on when you reinstalled the head?

+1 ^^^^^ Air leak for sure. You may have inadvertently pinched the carb o-ring as well. I do have a Mach .26 I would part with if you need it, but lets try to get your picco going right first. Shaun

I believe the air leak was correct. I had a small leak around the heat sink and around the carb. Fixed the one around the heat sink but the carb is still leaking. Can't get it running right. Motor is very old and I am ready for am upgrade anyway. Time to move up!

Shaun, what's up with that .26?

You can get a new version of the picco .21 for a little over 200 or you could look at the ofna jl 28 max.both engines should fit up with what you have already
