i just blew up my second rear diff in my savage 25:doh: both times it took out everything but the ring and pinion gears and shreaded the spider gears and the case. what could be going on here?? i looked at my diff cups and the one that bolts to the pinion gear has a nice and deep groove in it. could that be the cause???

Do the four spider mod. I had the exact same thing happen to me, so I did the mod. I have only run it twice since doing it but so far so good. While your at it, also replace the four self tapping screws in the diff cup with machine screws.

the self tappers were busted in half cause the spider gears ate them!!

Go ahead and do the 4 spider mod while you're at it...

2 diffs in 2 weeks sounds excessive, though. I don't think the groove you're talking about would cause this, although I'd change it out anyway.

What engine are you running? Are you doing any excessive braking? Did you check for misalignment of any kind?

If the groove in your diff cup made the diff pin work it's way into the thick part of the diff cup than you better do the diff mod. I had a stock savage 21 and took the bastard all apart and found the diff pin work it's way into the diff case it was $40.00 well spent for my opinion

everything was aligned perfect when I installed it . another part i noticed was pretty well toast was the rear center dog bone and the cup that holds it that connects to the pinion so that could have caused enough slack that when i hit the throttle that slack was catching so hard it shifted the diff and destroyed it......
