I would like to know what the chances are of being charged import tax on my Revo. It's being shipped to the UK from the states and was told i may have to pay up to £100 in VAT and customs charges. Is there any way which i can dodge this charge if they ask?

Secondly i will be moving to deepest Africa for six months in the summer. As there will be no way of aquiring replacement parts i'd love to know what i can do to prevent the most common breakages and failures on my truck. I can't spend a fortune but want maximum protect against damage on a limited budget. Any suggestions?

Batteries, or rechargables and a good charger. A failsafe and a good temperature gauge.
Those are a must for any R/C.
Fuel might be a problem. You need to find out where you can get it in Africa, since you won't be able to take it on the plane.

Fuel is going to be a tough one, it won't ship via air.

You might check eBay for someone parting out a truck and pick up some spares like front and rear upper and lower arms. I've seen quite a bit of stuff on eBay in pounds. IMO you won't get in without having to pay VAT. It's just too big an item and if it gets x-rayed they will see there's electronics in it.

I'm really thinking I'm going to load up on stuff and bring it with me next time I'm heading over the pond.
