Well, as I sit here and with for my Revo to arrive, I find myself pondering fuel choices. I have never ran a Traxxas 2.5 mill and was just wondering how it takes to 30%.

Yes, I do have experience with 30% and that's all I use BUT that's with nova based engines for on-road. For all you traxxas owners, what have you come across when using 30%? I can only assume that the majority use 20% but for those that do race their revo's with 30%, does the mill take to it nicely?

Some of you have said that the 2.5 tends to run hot, so I guess a new cooling head will come into play, IF I keep this engine. I may just throw in the 18 and call it a day but keep the 2.5 as a T&T engine when the suspension needs tweaking or strictly as a bashing engine if I decide to race his puppy so I can reserve the .18 for racing.

I will be using 30% byrons in my mill and will continue to use that percentage even when I get the new mill for the truck (OS 18tz).

I do not see why you would have a problem with 30% fuel. Traxxas sells 33% for a reason - better power with their engines.

I run 30% O'Donnels in my RB TM323 and did the same on the back end of my 2.5R before I swapped engines.

go with it and do not look back.

put another shim on the head if you plan on running 30%
Don't need another shim. Just have to go to a colder plug to adjust for spark timing.

Do the shim Diver......and not the plug......the mill won't last very long w/ 30% but it will definately haul ass......I got 3 gallons on one.....the con rod just can't take too much in that mill....IMO if you can run 25% it doesn't give that much less power and the mills seem to last longer.....I always buy 2 gallons of fuel now 20% & 30% and mix the two bottles and add a lil more oil, I got some of the same stuff maxy uses.....

When I had the 2.5R on my Revo I ran the Traxxas 20%, but on the Traxxas website they did discuss using their then new 33% and switching to the colder Traxxas plug. No shims were discussed, but with other brands of fuel, who knows?

I now run 30% Byrons in my RB 323. Your 18tz might take 30%, but I have not yet owned a performance .18.

Well, some believe to shim some don't. Shimming adjusts clearance (of course) to control spark advance or retarding. Going ot a colder plug will retard the spark so predetonation will not occur and form pitting in the piston. This is what we (sl0eg1n and I) have done with our on-road engines (nova based) when running 30%.

I'll be running 30% byrons in this puppy but breaking it in with 20% since I still have about 1/4 gallon of this stuff still laying around. I'll switch to 30% once it's all gone.

Granyed, I'm not a "mr. moneybags" but I'm not really too concerned with the life of a mill due to using 30%. The lifespan reduction is minimal and I have a hard enough time counting how many gallons go through each mill anyway. I just hope and pray that it'll last an entire season.
