2.5 vs. 3.3 transmission??

I bought a used 2.5 revo for $20. I plan on upgrading stuff on it along with a picco .26 engine. Whats the difference in the two transmissions and will the 2.5 transmission work good with the picco engine?
 
The 2.5 trans will work just fine. As far as I can remember I think the only difference is the gear ratio in second gear. The first gear is the same but i think the 3.3 had a wider second gear than the 2.5

That's spot on.

The 2.5 has the 'standard' ratio whereby the 3.3 has the long ratio gear box - first is the same, just the jump from 1st to second is larger in the 3.3 box than it is in the 2.5 box.


Likely the 2.5 gear box does not have a provision for a rear brake, but if you do not intend on running a centre diff, that wont be an issue.
 
It does have a provision for a rear brake on mine. What do you mean by running a center diff?
 
A center differential is what buggies an truggies use. It replaces a transmission in the center and distributes power equally to the front and rear diffs for response and control. Its only one speed instead of two and most if not all center diffs have a front and rear brake system for best braking as well. If your looking to have a very fast top end revo you dont want a center diff but if you want to build it into a track racer its recommended.
