hello dose enyone if i have to upgrade eny parts if i was to convert my 2.5 to a 2.5r and dose it drop rite in:)

The engines are interchangable - the 2.5R will drop right in.
Other than the cooling head I've not seen any difference between the two engines - although Traxxas does list different parts numbers for the two engines piston/cylinders ( 5230 for the 2.5 versus 5230X for the 2.5R).

I think I recall reading Traxxas claiming that the P/C in the 2.5R's are more closely matched compared to a 2.5, but given what I've seen from engines I've torn apart I'm suspect...

i need a new piston and my engine is kind of worn out so i was just going to buy a new motor 2.5 or 2.5r wich do you perfer

Whichever one you can get the best price on a new engine - they are essentially the same.
Check eBay, amain hobbies, and Tower Hobbies and look for the best price/availability against how soon you need it.

Personally, I like the cooling head on the 2.5R more - it's a tad taller and the fins are spaced further apart so it looks like it would be just a little bit better at cooling efficiency - but having said that refer to previous comments.

It is the same engine. Same crankcase, crankshaft, bearings, piston and sleave, and carb. The only difference is the cooling head. I'd pop for the 3.3 myself you can find em on ebay all day long for pretty cheap just watch the shipping cost. a lot more power than the 2.5.
