i seem to be having bad luck with any engine i touch. First it was my o.s cv-x and now its my 2.5 on my new maxx. It's running wayy hot. When i bring it in and hit it with the temp gun, it reads like 317!!!! Could it be the fact that i run it mostly on grass? Also, it exhibits the same symptoms which the traxxas manual says is a sign of running too lean, such as smoke coming from the engine ( not the exhaust ). I richen and richen and richen, but to no avail....:wtf: HELP!!!!!:dumb:

Yes running on grass will make your engine run hot. Your engine has to work harder to make the truck move on grass. Also what fuel are you running???

um using trinity monster 20 percent fuel. Hmmm interesting that grass makes it get hotter, i just like to run on grass because it "cushions" my maxx after a hard landing off my roof=devil

Well what happens when you richen it up? How many turns are you making when you turn the needle?

If you up the nitro % to 30% you can run richer and still get the power you want while running cooler.

The first ten or so times I ran my maxx after break in, I was running on grass, I was running in 75 to 80F no humidity and was seeing high temps in the 290 range, started richening HSN and got to around 240 at about 4-1/4 turns out from close. turned the LSN out 1/8" turn from break in and got another 10 degrees cooler.
