Is it possible to take the 2.5 and put the 3.3 in it and not have to change anything? I know if I went to a big block I would have to change almost everything. Would I need to change the gears transmission anything like that?

The 3.3 is a direct swap. You will eventually need to change out to a better driveline and if you still have reverse you’ll want to consider the FOC.

i got a old school maxx and the person before did the FOC and put a 3.3 and it held up. I know the FOC is a good thing to do for the 2.5.And for the hell of it upgrade the steering and stock steering and throttle servo. I know its not a must but its just some stuff i been doing. I did go back to a 2.5 but that will be gone for a better motor in the spring. trx motors imo are a pain and 75% you will face a air leak and run well over 290 and never hold a good tune. Lol

Well I have a smaxx that I'm converting to 4x4. And it's already only forward only.

And if I don't get the 3.3 what's a good motor I can get instead of a traxxas motor.

That's bolt on and I don't have to do anything until drivetrain breaks.

Price wise the Dynamite Mach .19 is a good engine better power than the traxxas 3.3 engine easier to tune also. If you don't mind spending out the cash the new Picco .21 P1 engine is about the best out there.

Where's a good site to buy the picco?

And can I put the EZ start on either one of them?

best to ditch the ez start, not many guys who stick with this hobby leave the ez start. Best thing is to just go with a pullstart and use a glow starter. Most of the time the blue wire to the glow plug burns up and most guys use the starter wand and a glow starer to turn the motor over. Imo you do not have to deal with having battery packs and chargers with you on hand if you plan to go out bashing for the day. I got a trx 2.5 and i will say this and no disrespect to anyone who stands behind trx 2.5 and even the 3.3 bro avoid them . They run stupid hot and traxxas will not admit it and when people starting put after market cooling heads on there 2.5 motors they came out with the 2.5r with the Better cooling head . They are worse then drug pushers i was told to NOT buy a after market tune pipe or after market motor. This was after trying to track down a air leak that is not there lol. Please avoid there motors even when lets say its a air leak i have heard of guys still running hot and check this out if there so great why is there motors one of the cheaper motors? I swear go do some looking around there motors are dirt cheap there all most throw away motors not worth to do a rebuild. If i could go back i would of ditched thee idea of a 2.5.

Ok well I guess I'm not a true die hard yet. lol I kept having to buy pull starts for my hpi truggy and ended up buying a roto start. They are a pain but I always end up burning the damn pull start or it gets nitro soaked and it breaks. I have a lot to learn though with tuning and what not. And yeah I know the 2.5 sucks that's why I'm already asking for better motors.

The only place I buy from ebay the worlds hobby shop. You may find it cheaper somewhere else. They are $209.00 for the Picco with engine mount included on the bay. The Dynamite .19 is $109.00 on ebay also. Traxxas engines are not the best but they are not the worst either. No matter the brand of engine you choose I would tear it down and seal it up with some good copper seal. I seal all my engine from the get go it makes it a lot easier that way you don't have to worry about air leaks later, which will eventually happen down the road, plus it helps keep the smaller dirt particles out. There is another option out there when it comes to engines there is a Novarossi .15 size engine on ebay they are $209.00 I think, and of coarse the OS, series engines. I can tell you the Picco's are absolute screamers though. I know I have two of them and they are balls out fast. :hehe:LOL!

I have the Picco .21 in my Revo and a new 3.3 in my Maxx. I have had no problems what so ever with the 3.3, it screams and seems pretty violent in the ole Maxx, it runs in the 250-260 range and I do not have to do much tuning adjustments to it at all. I love the 3.3. I can't give a fair judgment to the .21 cause it is still in the break in stages.

go the novarossi, only sorta downside is its roto start only which aint a bad thing. best part is for the price you also get a manifold and pipe to suit and it alo comes with the starter shaft ,I have one in a slayer pro and it screams ,chopped next doors revo 3.3 and uses way less fuel and sounds mean too
