There's a t-maxx 2.5 on my local craigslist, poster says it runs, but they don't know how to start it, and its filthy, but other than that I see only a couple minor issues (needs new antenna tube, etc.)

Thinking about offering around 125 for it, would it be a good buy at that price?

I'd only buy it if it seemed to have good compression, and I could get it running.

Body seems acceptable (my standard: isnt cracked in half), and the tires look fair.

Anyone who knows more about tmaxx's care to quickly go over any good and bads that are immediately identifiable from the pics? thanks :)

Things I note:

good:
Looks like a better than stock battery charger.
aluminum front (shock tower?)
some spare stuff

bad:
needs antenna tube and maybe radio box cover
not a 2.4ghz radio system
going to need a very thorough cleaning.

I have enough experience with my trx2.5 to know how much compression to expect, and how to get it running if the tune is way off.
I probably won't buy it if the motor seems shot, or there are lots of problems with the electronics.

That thing is a mess:whhooo:
It needs a good cleaning that's for sure, I would defiantly see if it starts, with all that crud all over the tank I'm sure its in the fuel as well. Possibly in the eng.
It has the older radio, and I see some bulk heads In the box, makes me think he broke one or two at some time, but that's normall. Or possible replaced then to put on the aluminum bulks. Charger looks good. And the badge looks new.:hehe:
I would defiantly start at a 100$ and see what happens from that point.

An offer of $100 to start and dont go over $150. Worst case you need a new engine which will run at the least $110. Thats for a dynamite .19 direct drop in. A new transmission alone for a 2.5 will cost close to $60 but i doubt anything is wrong with that one that can't be repaired cheap. All in all besides it being filthy it would be worth grabbing and upgrading to an extended chassis model. It looks like it already has the 3.3 battery box and receiver box installed and without seeing it in person the shocks are probably in need of rebuilding and new oil. I have tons of experience with the tmaxx and revo and i would buy it if i could get it for less than $150 just expecting to put another engine on it. Good luck

We posted at the same time and basicly said the same thing...
When I bought my maxx it looked almost like that, and few bucks later..

Well I called the guy up, talked a little about what I know it will need to get everything to a decent state, and he said he would not go lower than 150, which like zdragon said, is probably the most I could economically spend.

I told him he has my number, feel free to call back if he changes his mind.

Probably won't get this one, but thanks for the thoughts and opinions guys.

The funny thing is in your first post he says "It runs but dont know how to start it" That tells me he really doesn't have a clue and probably beat the snot out of it and couldnt hold a tune on it to save his life. Your better off to keep looking around. You can find cleaner rigs for around the same price
