I have a T Maxx with the TRX 2.5. The other day I decided to tear down the motor to have a look. I bought it used and wanted to see what kind of shape it was in. (Nothing else to do because its too fricken cold!! -5 ) The only thing I found that made me nervous was what I call a lot of play in the wrist pin / piston. The fit to the crank seemed fine. Is this why I have a lot of trouble tuning?? And why can't I find anyone that has the piston/sleeve in stock? For the price of the things I might as well just upgrade to the 3.3! Any thoughts?:\

I would upgrade. Brand new 3.3 on ebay without carb for $90 and you can use the carb off your 2.5. They are the same carb.

Another newbie question. How about the ambient temp outside?? When is it too cold to run them?

Anything below freezing or worse will cause issues trying to hold heat and a tune. Even wrapping the head you still have cold air coming into breather. I wont run mine if its below freezing outside. Just to keep from being aggravated with the lean issues.

I would seriously consider a new engine, but if your piston and sleeve are useable you could get just a rod for now.

Thanks for the input. But the slop is in the wrist pin and piston. The con rod is tight on the pin. Plan on upgrading anyway just not right now.

If you have a long cold season it would be a good idea to buy a engine just to use forthw colder temps. I know I won't run my picco in the winter..

So the wrist pin is sloppy where it goes through the piston? That's not good. The wrist pin itself should be fine.
