I broke the motor shaft on my ez start so I have the engine off the chassis. I was wondering if there would be tell tail signs that I should re-seal the back plate. Fuel leaking out and such. It looks fine and the motor ran pretty good considering the cold temps. I ran it in. Figured it was a good time to ask. Thanks as always.

A lot of guys will seal their backplates and carbs before ever running the engine. If you have it out, now is the perfect time to do it.
The alternative is to wait till you can't get it to hold a tune and then tear it down ONLY to seal it.

Red is my preference. What I do is set the plate back on, spin the screws in by hand but leave it a couple of sheets of paper thick. Seat it square but do NOT tighten it down. If you tighten it down it will just squish out the silicone. Let it cure for a day, and when you tighten it completely down you will have an actual gasket of silicone.

Ah, ha! No way to accidentally get it too thin in spots. I used a paper clip to dab it around the servo case, where it seats. Took a while to get a consistency that I felt would seal, but not squish all over the in side of it. Thanks a million. The Maxx has got to wait for my wallet to fatten back up before I can fix 'er, so I have plenty of time to seal it right. I'll search the site for info on how to do the whole engine, though I think I have a good grasp now. Thanks again, Rolex! Just to double check; Red, high temp, non hardening gasket maker?
