I finanally got a heat measuring tool.On a 3.3 tmaxx,You guys say 230-240 is good.Well how about a 2.5 nitro rustler??Same??

First off, make sure you go through the directions and set your guage to read anodized aluminum. It can be off by quite a bit if it's not set right.

Yes anything between 220-260 is ideal, but you have to consider the weather outside.

DO NOT TUNE FOR TEMP! Let the engine tell you how it's running and check temps to ensure they're not too high or too low.

That's the full blown passes. It should never exceed 270 unless your engine isn't getting enough cooling air. In that case make sure it gets cooling air.

LOL, 380s's on my nitro rustler!!Just now.Holly sh@t,I've been running it waaay to lean. That's why it cuts out when I stop sometimes right???And why it's wicked fast LOL!!!I'm going to smoke this thing???

I have a traxxas t-maxx 3.3 and i was just wondering how warm does it have to be outside for me to run it and not blow the motor .

Stock settings will work good around 70-80 degrees f. You will still have to fine tune it from there.

Anything below 50° f and I would wrap the head. In cold weather the engine will stay at a safe temp just with the fuel and air coming in.....as long as it's not lean.

Cold weather = rich tune.

Hot weather = less rich.

I'm sorry for asking in an old thread, but I was just running this afternoon, temp outside was around 37-39 degrees F, my engine is broken in, tuned pretty good ( I think), to the point where there is still blue smoke and a little bit of excess fuel on the tires after, and it still has some punch after idling for 30 seconds. That being said, my temps after a high speed run or two were around 280ish give or take a few degrees (using a $25 temp gun from harbor freight). Is that too high of a temp? What could be wrong/what do I need to do to get the temp lower, run richer?

Is the head wrapped or uncovered?
If the cooling head is uncovered then I'd say you must be lean still. The best thing to do is get it warmed up again and richen it until it seems to slow down, then lean it back 1/8th at a time from there.

It was uncovered with a stock body (hole for the cooling head). It was reading 286 directly after a high speed run but would quickly cool to about 250-260. Maybe it was running a little leaner due to the colder weather... Ill keep an eye on it next time I run. Thanks!
