hey guys,
i got the sirio .18 and i have the fantom .15 steel tuned pipe. i was told it was to restrictive. i bought a dynamite 1/8 scale .21 pipe, i put it on and did notice a significant power change(good change not bad) but after i had paid for it and opened the package some wise ass decided to mention what was wrong with this pipe. he said it was not restrictive enough, is there such thing as not enough restriction?? i have plenty of back pressure on the tank, so I'm confused on what he ment ?? any ideas??

Their are soo many pipes out there and so many have different attributes it's hard to say from where I sit.

I would say a .15 pipe on a .18 would effectively be the same as putting on an exhaust brake, you'll notice a huge gain with any bigger pipe (even a .21 pipe).

The gains you experience from the .21 pipe might be misleading because the restrictive nature of the .15 you had on before.

I would say if you have enough pressure to ensure good mixture , and you are noticing a power gain, your engine should be just fine.

Would a .18 pipe produce more power? Probably because they are specifically designed for thtat size a motor. Will you notice a difference between that and a .18 pipe most likely not, but it will be there.

I run the sirio .18 with the sirio .18 big bore pipe. I ran this pipe on stock motor before getting the motor itself. From what i have seen the .21 pipes are not any bigger or more or less restrictive then the .18 pipe is. I would say you are fine. I also have another t maxx currently with a stock motor and the same sirio .18 big bore pipe and it has run very well, and runs as great as it ever has. ( so there is an example of running a bigger pipe on smaller motor) no worrys i think your good.

Hey bigboys - Let me guess bro, your boss said that it wasn't restrictive enough....lol. He likes to give ya chit.

It's not restriction as much as proper resination. What are you talking about .15 pipe dude? That pipe that you and I have is made for the Fantom .18...lol. It kicks ass for top end with the Trx 2.5 (I actually prefer the sound of the stock maxx plastic pipe though) and it worked well with my Sirio .18 in the short time I ran it. What do you notice with the .21 pipe compared to the Fantom pipe??

Get the damn big bore pipe for $36.00 on E-bay, I'd sell ya mine if it wasn't probably sold already.

Putting an exhaust deflector will restrict the flow a little bit. See if maybe you can squeeze a deflector for a .15 on there, that'd help.

Verdict?

So what is the verdict? I have a OS 18TM in a REVO and there aren't any .18 specific pipes for a REVO that I have found? There are several for the T-Maxx, but I can't adapt them to the REVO because of the shape. I am looking at the fantom works but it is listed for .12/.15 and then they have the pipe listed for the .21. Which way would be best for the .18?

Yeah it is an old post, but was kinda the same question I had. Thanks I'll check that pipe out.

I've had 2-3 of those pipes, they work extremely well for both the stadium truck, and the maxx I transplanted my .18 too :D

I talked to many people about the Sirio Big Bore Pipe and was told that it would work great with the 18 AND the 23. I use the big bore with my Sirio 23 and it makes me happy. I was originally using a 21 pipe from a buggy. I didn't notice the difference. If you are getting a good tune from it. then why not? It seemed that on the 21 pipe I could lean it out more then I would think but I haven't really played with the big bore pipe.

Thanks for the input. There are a ton of post about pipes, but none that really answer the question of which pipe is best. Everyone seems to have a different opinion. I am new to R/C had my REVO about 2 weeks. It is the end of racing season so I had to find something for the off season. I have raced motorcycle and cars so I know the importance of a good exhaust, but being so new I didn't know what was what with the R/C stuff. I put a .18TM in my REVO and was disappointed at first. It was the kit for the T-Maxx so I didn't have the right header pipe. So I cut the T-maxx header and made it fit. I ended up cutting 1.5" off the T-maxx header to get everything to match up. This made the header length way to short and killed the power. It would barely outrun my buddies stock REVO. Well today I got the right header pipe and threw a Dynamite Pipe on it and this thing RIPS! It flipped on its lid when it hit 2nd gear! I can't believe how much difference that pipe made. I am off to race my buddy with the new pipe setup and I'll report the results when I get back.

You're probably pretty experienced on the tuning end and know the following but I thought I would mention that when switching different headers and pipes the fuel pressure also changes.

Maybe experiment with pressure line, and fuel line lengths to get the tune even more spot on.

You would think a pipe with more volume, and more free flowing would decrease backpressure, and therefore fuel line/tank pressure. Make sure all that new found power isn't coming at the cost of running your engine lean eh?

Glad it rips man... nothings better than getting the kinks worked out and running a wild nitro

The test turned put as expected. The .18TM will SMOKE a 2.5R!! There is no comparison! I had some pro-line road rage tires on for an oval parking lot and it was so fast it was slinging those low profile tires out like a dragster! Those tires get really tall when they sling out. I was really impressed and my buddy was in shock!hhh
