Just asking everyone's opinion. I have installed a new alum robinson clutch and Robinson flywheel in the Sirio .18TX just wondering if any one has run the alum clutch and what they think of them. I usually only run the MIP clutch's on my trucks. Also the .18 has two brass spacers under stock head I got a new ACNMC giant cool head installed on the engine, just I installed bith shims just like was under the factory cool head, does this seem right. Thanks

Those aren't the questions of a "guru".
A lot of people use aluminum clutches, but the mips are nice too.
Your engine is going to run cooler now, obviously....Don't lean it out thinking it has to be at 250° running temp.

I have 2 of the sirio tx 18s as back up engines they are great engines they come fac. with one shim are you running the turbo head or the reg. head you need to know the thickness of the head shims.your supposed to run two shims if your running 30% fuel to prevent pre detonation, but you aint supposed to run 30% in that engine any way.as far as that acme head they do run the engine alot cooler but they seem to melt my shock tower ,stock cooling head, good tune and they run great and you have to have the stock mannifold or they run like poop

Obviously it will run cooler with the head I am using 2revo1maxx, I have never run a .18tx i am a Picco guy. And like I said I always use MIP clutchs on all my trucks. But thanks for the sarcasam though BUD!!

Yes I have stock manifold and the right Sirio pipe that match's thanks fror the info. Head is not a turbo plug head, and I always run 20% nitro. When I removed the stock head that was installed it has both shims installed so I just put both back in it. Thanks. So should I go with one shim then.

The shims help with reducing the compression on the engine and a second shim is usually not recommended when running 30% nitro or higher to prevent pre ignition in lower dense air. But in lower altitudes on a high compression engine a second shim can be recomended when running 30% or less nitro content.

I do not think MaddMaxx had any sarcasm in his post ;o)

You should be ok running both shims with 20% nitro and the fact they were installed at the factory you should keep running them both. Picco engines are known for their high compression.

This discussion could go really deep if we really want it to go there. Lower Nitro Contents require a hotter plug and higher Nitro content requires a colder plug. 20% and 30% nitro Medium heat plugs. Then we can go into Air Density and lack of oxygen. I run my R/Cs at around 6000 feet above sea level and there is less oxygen at this altitude. Way up here in Colorado one shim will increase performance of an engine because the air is less dense. Lower altitudes 2 shims would probably work better in a high compression engine.

This article is for Remote Control Planes but is also true on ground based R/C engines.

Thanks Joemaxx. I do not run my trucks in cold temps. Engine is not broken in yet just trying to get best setup for a good breakin. And the comment was not ment for maddmaxx. His hekp was much appreciated.

Proper engine breakin is always a new discussion. It almost always requires a 5 tank rule. Run rich for the first 3 tanks and build up to full throttle runs on the forth tank. It has been years since I have broke in a new engine but cannot remember a time when I did not have to replace the glow plug at least once during my first 5 tanks.

Yes I have broken in several engines the worst are those Piccos man they are work to brake in properly. Hoping the Sirio is a little easier. Won't be breaking it in until this coming spring or summer. Trying to locate the proper brake in instructions for this engine.:D

The break in of all engines is about the same. Run rich and lean it out through each tank. First tank low speed Second tank low speed third tank medium speed forth tank rich fuel mix with almost full throttle runs and by the 5th tank your engine is broken in. Do not perform full throttle runs until the 5th tank of fuel.
