rebuilt the .15fe, sleeve was "squeezed" by OSRockets-(fast service by the way)

when removing the sleeve, I didnt mark it to the block to replace in same position.
I set the sleeve when the largest cut out was lined up with the exhaust port.

tried new plug, cleaned carb, starter freshly charged and checked with plug in car, needle set at 3 turns(hpi website says 2.5-3 turns for starting). Primed it,
it seems the car trys when I give it full throttle, but can't stay running on its own.
I also tried the needle in small increments- down to 1 turn and then to 4.5 turns while trying to start it.

Could I have put the sleeve in wrong? And there is no gasket/spacer in between the head and block, should there be one?

Yes, there should be a shim in between the head and the sleeve. Also, there should have been some kind of marking on the sleeve to show you which way it goes. The idle may be a little low.. try raising it.

I remember seeing a mark on top of the sleeve, but nowhere to line it up with.

Does the mark maybe point to exhaust, or to intake or wherever?

The idle is set at 2.0mm

Make sure the notch in the sleeve faces the rear of the engine case.

If you go to www.hpiracing.com, click instructions, look for instruction walk throughs, the first one is how to rebuild a nitro engine. This will explain everything for you with detailed pics, and the mill they use for the write up is actually the .15 fe.

Thanks for the info on hpiracing.com

Been there alot, but missed it.

thanks again

Just checked my work, I am off by all most 1/4 of an inch.

Will try it tomorrow in the correct position.

Tried to start with sleeve in correct position, wont start.I tried the needle at 2 turns to 3 turns and no fire.

Maybe the piston is in wrong.

I wont be able to pull it apart tonight, we are still having problems from Hurricane Charley.

I will let ya'all know when I tear back into it.

So exactly where in Fl are you? Charlie was bad where I am, Sebring, but Jeanne hit us much much harder here. There is still quite a bit of damage here from all three hurricanes here as well.

Cape Coral.....20 miles south of Punta Gorda/Charlotte Harbor where the eye hit.

Charlies eye passed about 25 miles to the west of me, we still got hit pretty hard. Jeannes eye went directly over me in Sebring, that one was scary.

What Jeanne threw at us was nothing compared to Charley, just high winds with Jeanne.

Just tried the .15, got it to run for a good 2 minutes then died. Now wont start again. Probably have it flooded now.

Got work to do back inside, I will try again tomorrow.

Yes, I still have the single neddle carb.

I will get a 10e carb when I find one thats not thrashed.

Not sure if you can do it, but I would suggest the 10c slide carb... MUCH better response & tuning.. If you need the 10e, I have one in OK condition that was pulled from a used Ebay mill I picked up for parts... If interested, shoot me a PM..

ok, every once in a while I can get it to run for a half tank.

I have noticed alot of fuel leakage at flywheel, is that just a bearing or is it something special that needs replaced?

Would the leakage at flywheel contribute to my starting/running problems?

Pulled the .15fe out of car, checked the piston, I have it in wrong.
The .15fe has a hole in piston which should not face exhaust port.

So anything you can do wrong on a rebuild, I DONE IT!!!

Started right up, ran a half a tank with no problems. Still doing the break-in.

Letting it cool down and try again.
