Hey guys I just got in from running my Maxx with no problems at all :dancin:
I now have driven it for around 60 minutes total since I got in, anyway I'm wondering how much power it should have its a first generation Maxx and the engine had just been rebuilt when I got it. I also have a dynamite cooling head on it and lightweight vented flywheel. It takes off decent will spin the tires a little from a dead stop and accelerate and a good pace after hit hits second gear it really wants to get up and go, I've been tuning it and I'm not sure if I have everything set right or should I mess with it more trying to get more power. I dont expect it to do 80 or anything lol. I've heard of all of these new Maxx,s taking off on a wheelie Is the older one even capable of doing this with the right spring set up. Wich I put on stiffer springs today and WOW what a differance it would flip over so easy before now I can take corners like a viper lol :jk: but I was very happy with the new set up. Please let me know if you think I should mess with my carb or just be content with the way it is? I have no Idea what this engine should be able to do. But I'm just happy I took it out today with out it breaking of dying it was a blast!!!!

WOW, 60 minutes of run time? That's intense!!! Party time, you bring the keg.
I had the old style Maxx with the .15. Not a whole lot of guts from a dead stop, but once the weight was moving, it ran great. Just enjoy it the way it is. It's a fun truck, not a competition racer. Great on the driveway, the lawn and through the woods.
The first thing I did was put on the ProLine low/wide suspension since I got pretty tired of seeing it roll over every time I made a hard turn. I was really happy with mine till I drove a new one with a 2.5. I then upgraded to that engine. Run it stock till it's time for a new mill, then go hog wild with a Wasp or a Sirio. (thanks for not making me hurl with more bad news)

LOL glad you diddnt Hurl I would have to pull out the mighty stick :stick: I kind of figured from what I've heard it not a real power full motor. I think untill I can get a more powerfull motor for it I'm going to take off the aluminum wheels and put the stock ones back on it to loose some weight. I know what you mean about it rolling over it was driving me crazy but with my new spring set up it does awesome I only rolled in once and that was when I did a huge powerslide at WOT it was cool though landed on all 4 wheels and kept on going. I'm hoping when I finally get my settelment from my car accident I'm going to try to treat my self and buy a brand new Rc truck thinking of a Savage, I deserve it after going through all the pain and agony for the past couple years, all because some dumb ass wasn't watching the road and plowed into my family and I at a stop light at 65 mph. It would be nice to be able to purchase a brand new never ran truck, instead of buying someone elses used one that they may have abused and not taken care of off ebay.

What do you think about changing the bell gear to get some more low end torque I dont really mind to much if it doesn't go as fast. I just want it to be able to take off quicker. Wouldnt I need a higher count of teeth I keep getting that confused.

I read about your accident in another thread. I can sympathize with your situation since I'm in pain right now from someone slamming me in the rear at 30 MPH while I was stopped in a line of traffic. That was in '66, and some things never get better, only worse with time and age.
By the way, after re-reading your first post here, I was reminded that everyone commented on my old Maxx with the .15, because it would pull out in first, and about 20 feet later it would hit second and squat down and explode out with power. I always enjoyed seeing it do that, and it looked impressive.
It wasn't till we got a track around here that I felt it needed more power.
As far as the suspension, one day I was messing around with it and used zip ties to lower it way down. Suddenly I could do power slides and donuts without it tipping over. The next day I got the ProLine A-arms.
Now you can just change to the A-arms that come with the 2.5 Maxx.

If you're running mostly around your yard and want more low end, then you can either use a CB with less teeth, or a spur gear with more. Stock is 72 on the spur. I'm currently running 70 with a stock CB. I once tried the 66 tooth spur from an Emaxx, and the top end was insane. Problem is, it was hard to find enough room to get it up to top speed since the low end suffered.

Thanks I might get a cb with lower teeth when I have some $. That would be cool to see how fast I could get it but then I would probally really destroy it in a wreck just the thought of that makes me want to hurl lol

One of the first things I did with my .15 Maxx was step down to an 18T clutch. Did make quite a difference in the takeoff. Almost good enough to pull the front wheels up....

Cool I might have to do the same, I took off my aluminum wheels to make it lighter but they are not much heavier than the plastic ones so probally wont make a big differance.

alright jesse....the RC man.......the wider arms make a big difference in handling....I say just build up the one you have......it's more fun....most of my fun is wrenching, there's a zen function to it....I like tearing my stuff apart and rebuilding it so when people see it dirty it's a surprise....just make your maxx badder than all other maxxes.....have you jumped anything yet? just be aware that's when you really break stuff.......Anyway it's cool the first times you really start running w/o problems......

Yeah I really like it and some day I will get the wider suspension or at least wider Rpm offset wheels I might sell the aluminum ones I have now I havent decided on it yet. I've only jumped it over the small curb in front of my house nothing big yet. I think if I lower the cb I will like it alot more It just doesn't have the take off I would like it to have and I dont have any place where I would be driving it at high speeds anyway. I know what you mean about takking it apart and rebuilding it I've done it 3 times already lol and everytime I run it I bring it in and clean it up again lol It always looks brand new.

If it doesn't have the take off you want, a smaller cb will help that out. I thought the 2.5 was kinda weak, even with a 16t cb, so i went to a sirio .27r... in break in, i can't even keep it in control... i feel i will have to break out the paddles with this one too, so i can get some grip!!! I had to do the same with my rc10gt, and the paddles last fairly long, as long as i dont drive in the gravel a lot...

I'm just happy to get it running with out any problems knock on wood lol. I thought it would have a little more power off the line but no big deal once it gets going it really moves!!!

Hey mabe I can mount my weed eater motor to it lol :jet:

I saw a t-maxx on ebay that had a weedeater engine on it.... they were like half way done and trying to get like $400 for it.

LOl that would be funny but probaly not very practical that thing would be so top heavy it wouldnt tip over so easy and would be really hard on the shock on a big jump.

Mabe if I get a 15T clutch it will do a wheelie or break something :(

lmao yeah your probally right so you think I should stick with an 18 tooth?

The 18 worked good for me. More snap off the line and the truck was still pretty fast. A few of the guys here saw it at ECB II and I think I did pretty good. They were all running Savages so they had the hp advantage on me. But my little Maxx looked good enough running with them.

Now, if you really want me to tempt you, you might want to think about porting your TRX .15. That makes quite a difference, but you run the risk of destroying your engine during the mod process...
