Whats the difference? I need a new engine cause the .15 blew up. I want a drop in the works with the .15 ez-start. If I have to buy an ez-start 2 I will but I want to know what I getting into before I do. If I spending $600 on converting mine maxx to 2.5 I'll save it & buy a Ofna or a Savage. Thanks for your help :ponder2:

.15 is side exhaust, rotary carb, lower horsepower

2.5 is Traxxas' revamped .15 with a slide carb and rear exhaust

3.3 is their new 'mid block' (small crank case, large piston/sleeve), which is supposed to be a .20. It's supposed to have tons of power.

You shouldn't need to spend $600 to convert to 2.5. I'd say closer to $375, tops. The engine will run you the bulk of it, then you have the linkage conversion kit, and the pipe... Everything else is a direct-fit.

2.5r with trade in erp 100
pipe 15
header 20
linkage 10

so $145 plus uncle same? that's what I spent on all of it nip.

okay I understand a little more. Are they the same chassis? Same Motor mounts? I'm trying to get .18 or higher in where the .15 went. Thanks

I would not spend $600 that was just an example. I don't really want to convert, but if I have to, I have to

The 3.3 or the 2.5r will just bolt in, you'll prob need a header and exhaust, but besides that you'd be good to go. No conversion necessary just the parts mentioned above.

I know the linkage is not the same. The carbs are different I would need the rotary carb vs the slide carb. The Ez-start is not the same.

Keep in mind aswell that with each revamp of the maxx, there have been "upgrades" to the driveshafts, chassis and other things. If you already have money into the truck then it can be a good upgrade but as we all know the max chews the cash. Also, if you are still running the narrower setup you may have a hell of a time keeping the truck rubber down with a more powerful engine.

I'd like to Kick my Maxx in the butt with a .18 or higher. If thats not possible with the .15 system then I'll go switch. If it is possible then I just need a drop in to the .15 system. If it's a Pipe Dream then I guess I'm SOL.

Well, outside of the forward only conversion (highly recommended at any rate), and the new drive shafts (they're cheap.. like $10 for the whole truck, if memory serves), you'll still be WAY under the $345 limit. I'd recommend getting CVD's instead of the shafts. You can find them in a set with shocks and steering rods for under $100 on ebay, shipped. That package goes a LONG way towards a durable maxx.

Now, as for the Maxx linkage upgrade, you will have to drill ONE hole; for the linkage pivot. The kit comes with a template, if memory serves.

Yup, I did the conversion (the forward only). I didn't do an engine conversion; that was next on the platter, but I sold the truck. My truck was a first-generation maxx that I was planning on updating a part-at-a-time. All that was left was the engine swap out.

I had the pro 15 maxx too. I did the XTM conversion kit and went with a hyper 8 port .21 big block. The xtm conversion kit made it pretty slick. The only thing that kinda sucked was having to change all the gears in the tranny to metal. (I did RRP gears)

I would check out ebay for all that stuff...I found the CVD's 19.99 BIN per set. This is something I strongly suggest since it's a PITA to work on the T/E maxx shafts. Also, Tower Hobby sales a widemaxx kit for 40.00 bux or something like that. I just did this to my son's Emaxx and it's a world of difference. As for the motor, I would scan ebay out. IO see new 2.5's running 80-100.00 all the time and sometimes OS .18'S for 100.00 bux.

Best of luck.
Ray
