I've heard of guys making big power with .12 size engines and I know of two that I could probably get for near nothing. Is the HPI .12 any good for performance?

Nope, that's not a performer. The .12's making the "big power" are engines like ... Novarossi, Mugen Seki, Mega (soon to be released ZX-12), RB, Top, Rex ... the racing "legal" engines, not the sport editions. There's also the outlaw's but those are not ROAR, EFRA or IMFAR legal. Just good for club races, if allowed.

the hpi 12 pro xs with 1,35 hp is a very good engine and very fast. not as fast as the novarossi but you would be happy with it.. i owned one in my rs4 3ss and it made a rocket out of it. got it to go 85 / 89 kmh. driven my real car behind it.

The engine that corrado suggested in one of the links, Black pixie, is a good engine but for a few more dollars, get the Sirio ,12 Evo2. It's a better engine and not as expensive as the itlaian engines such as novarossi, RB and Mugens.

diver i dont know about better, just different. rossi's are known for lasting a very long time. and while it doesn't wind out like the sirio does it has great bottom end. i would take a rossi on a short track and sirio on a long track. if i raced onroad competetively that is..........

Mugen Seiki MT .12 BSS

I went through several top dollar engines before trying the Novarossi based MT12 and I have had 3 since and will never as long as they sell it buy another engine. Wanna talk power on a budget. I've seen them on ebay go for around $150 and I am going to throw in a shameless plug but I have one used for sale on ebay that has less than 1/2 gallon thru it. I'm at work and ebay is a blocked site or I would link ya but you should be able to find it no problem searching for Mugen MT 12. Auction started Sat. I believe the Buy It now price is around $85

Another good mill for the price is the CVR 12 by OS Max. they go for like $119 most places but lack the equal power distibution of the high end mills like listed above.

You cannot go wrong with any of the engines listed above but they are high priced and the replacement parts are high dollar. Check with you local hobby shop and see what brands he carries and what the parts availability is.

Corrado, I was just comapring the pixie to the Evo2. I use my Rossi on a track with lots of turns in the inner part of the track. I also use a Mugen X12 which is excellent for even a long track. Geat low end punch and won't loose it's breath in the higher rpms. I guess it's all attributed to the long stroke and turbo crank.

yup i agree there brandon that is a tough little engine right there!

i got a os max cv hyper .12 (gold head) on my rc10 gt and it will run with the best of them..but the down side is it's a short track engine

yeah they are getting harder to find but i love this little engine..i have had my share of "performers" (omega xt .12, 2 cvr .12's) but i like the performance and tuneability of this engine

if you feel those are some performers, you need to check out an italian based rear exhaust engine. Totally different ball game there.

I agree with you untchbl. I run a Novarossi NS12 and a Mugen X12. Couldn't be happier with them. Although, I kow that true appreciation of them wouldn't be acheived by just bashing around. Take em to the track and you'll really see where they sing.

amen brotha. You really do get what you pay for when it comes to engines. The novarossi stuff not only lasts longer (if treated right) they generally outperform anything.

My current expirence is coming from an MT.12 in my AE GT.

Brandon

I'm running mine on my serpent710. Car demands performance and these engine's are the ticket.

Only time I would run an OS is if I wasn't racing competatively. I ran an OS 12 and 15 CV-r for over a year in my NTC3. Was great for the park but the racing scene demanded more than the OS could provide.

i race my gt..dont ever bash it and i have seen what you guys are saying about the italian engines..they scream but i have also noticed soem tuning issues..i havent touched my cv in months..but its all in what you like i guess

no tuning issues on mine, just an airleak on the lsn. starts up every time. pretty easy to tune, for me at least.
