Hi all,
I was hoping to get some input as to what engine I should start out with for my first season of racing 200mm touring car. I just ordered a Factory Team Nitro TC3 and was looking at the OS .12's. I need something ROAR Legal and figured it best to start out this way then to go with a Mugen MTX-3 Prospec or Trinity G4 with a Rossi Pixi and get in over my head before I pick up some tuning skills.

Thanks in advance

The OS 12TR is a nice mill for someone just starting out. The NTC3 is an excellent beginner car. It was my first one as well. I used it for a year of bashing and then used it to race last year. I never regretted it even though my eyes were set on the Serpent 705 when I was choosing a car. Only thing that stopped me then was my budget.

If I had the choice, I would get the MTX-3 over the G4. The Rossi Black pixie is a good engine but there are better choices than that one when you decide to scale up to a higher end kit.

Enjoy your FT NTC3. It will grow with you as your skills get better.

for the NTC3, i would suggest the rb concepts v12 (stock) motor. i have this engine in my NTC3 and never regretted it. it was very easy to tune and holds it pretty well. the price for this engine is just above $200.

I tried all different engines in my NTC3 and the fastest one I ran was a Sirio .12 5 port..But my Rossi black pixie 3 port was not far behind it..My Sirio outran a RB rody tuned 12 that was ported..I think the Sirio is the fastest engine I have ever seen in a on-road car..

You need to see an Mugen X12 run, then. The long strike and turbo crank make quick work of regular .12's. Where the 3 ports putter out, the X12 keeps pulling.

T3K is going to race. If he needs to be ROAR legal, it has to be a 3port. Black pixie is out as well because it is a 4port.

My Rossi was a 3 port..

The black pixie is a 4 port. I thought that was what he was referring tohead (black block and silver/oval cooling head) . My bad.

I picked up a Orion Wasp .12 T-Works engine for a good price.

What glow plugs should I run in it? I live on the East Coast in NJ and it will be getting warm in a few months.

Thanks!

OS .12 TZ. It will be out Mid May, expect to spend around $250 for it. I believe this engine is why the TR is discontinued... I may be wrong.

-edit- my bad, missed the last post. For a good plug, OS #8 are pretty good. I had a fox plug that ran like a champ for 2 years of racing in my old HPI engine, kept my old Kyosho Ultima running w/o a problem.
