I informed the 'ol lady a couple of weeks ago I was going to get a 1022. I really like this gun. .22 ammo is cheap. The upgrades for it are unreal. I know there are a lot of gun freaks here, so I would like to ask a bunch of questions.

1) Since I'm wanting to customize, I figure on picking up the $175 model carbine. I want to shoot it as I'm deciding on options though.
2) I know the trigger is about the first thing to work on.... What's the next upgrade? I'm thinking the barrel.
3) May want to convert to the .17 later. Looks like it is cheaper to start with the .22 mag to do that? I'm just looking for something inexpensive to shoot.
4) Any of you have the .17?
5) Found a couple of forums. Need more though. Please post what ya have.

If you have any pics of yours, would you post them?
Told the wife I am buying a $100 gun, but I haven't told her I was spending 7 or 8 hundred on upgrading it. She'll get over it.

www.rimfirecentral.com is a great site. My dad has the 1022 and there are almost too many upgrades for it, its hard to decide. I've read that the stock barrel isn't the most accurate, but it gets the job done.

Hey Digger,

How have you been man? Hope all is well.

The 1022 is a great gun, fun to plink with and cheap to buy. The first thing I would upgrade would be the barrel. Definitely get the Heavy Barrel for it. It will improve your acuracy and make the gun just a bit heavier and a little more stable. After that, the skys the limit! Then next thing I would look at would be to get the composite stock, and then get some good rings and then look at optics. That is probably the most expensive upgrade, but it will be worth it when you are driving tacks at 150 yards. After that, it is all preference. You may want to work the trigger a bit, but I find the stock trigger setup works for me and my needs. I hope this helps.... as always this is just my opinion and may not match others on this site. Take care my friend and let us know what you do.

Tom

I bought a 1022 in 1981 for $69 and I still have it. Its one of my favorite guns. Ruger just announced a new full size version, with a normal stock and 20" barrel. That might be a good choice if you're not going to put on a folding stock.

Been on rimfire, Vb. Thanks. So many posts and so many options on this little gun....

Hey Tom. Can't complain. Hope you are well.
Got a few pistols. Favorite is a little .22 Buckmark.
Started looking at the little 1022 and I have to have one. Shells are cheap. Upgrades are unreal.

Scott, since I'm going to upgrade, figure I'll go with the carbine. Haven't decided for sure. Getting something in a couple of weeks though.
Thanks for the input guys.

Bought the carbine at Wally's a couple of days ago, guys.
First thing I'm getting are a couple of 25 round clips. See where it goes from there after I shoot it. Change it as I can afford to.

Got a few handguns. I never wanted to hunt, so I never had any interest in a rifle. Looking foward to this build.

Ever Think About A Savage 22.250. Heavy Barrel Already And Trigger Is Great!!!!

The newest issue of Shooting has an article about the 1022. Sounds like a neat rifle.

I am looking at 2 other guns right now. One is Ruger s/s .20 shotgun and the other is the Belgian/Browning GTX o/u .12.

Ordered 3 25 round clips and a speed loader yesterday. Ol lady got excited about that. When we go out with my Buckmark pistol, all I get to do is load it for her. She's a fair shot. Won't shoot the .357 though.

I still can't beleive the upgrades you can get for the 1022. Spend 2 or 3 for a barrel and stock, or go all out.
Here is a link from one extreme to another. http://www.hornetproducts.com/bin/category.asp?category=29

Figure I'll put about 4 into it? Got my credit card bill today, so I'm going to cut back the on-line shopping for a bit. Maybe....

That was all I needed....
Another expensive hobby.

Maybe I should take up knitting??? Na, not noisy or destructive. :naughty:

I actually just got one too. My wife had bought me a marlin model 60 from her dad, but he offered what she paid for it. He wanted it for sentemental reasons. So I found a 10/22! I plan on using a Boyd's stock/stainless barrel, trigger work, and a nice scope.

Just thought I would update on my little rifle. Actually I had 666 posts, had to find another right quick. :)

Shot it a little last week. Just to try out the clips. They fed good, no problems. Love the speedloader. It's kinda cheap looking but it works and is going to save on the fingers.
Got the trigger polished and the bolt release done. Bolt release isn't right, didn't get it radiused enough. But I'm learning and I'll get it.
Not going to put that much money in one right now, so I ordered this. http://www.hornetproducts.com/ViewProduct.asp?ModelNumber=TBUDI-SS22

Maybe later on I can pick up a used one and put it back for some more serious mods.

I ordered a bunch of stuff for mine as well, I got a trigger/hammer/sear kit from Hawktecharms. A boyds blaster stock in patriot color and a ss target barrel. I also ordered a scope. I'll put up pics once I get it all done and put together.

I couldn't afford a lot. Seems like all the stocks and barrels are aimed at scopes. I don't have a clue about scopes. All of my stuff is open sites. Guess I'm old school. Want to try a scope, but right now I can't put a lot in the gun.

Wanting to try the stock. If this one turns out I may cut on the one that came on it.

Looking forward to your pics. Mine isn't going to be as nice, but I'll try to post a couple.
Good luck and let me know how it turns out.

I got my stock today, I still haven't seen it in person, my wife took pics of it.

here it is...

VB, too funny. Wifey gets a box, probably thought it was roses, opens it up, your toy in it, and you ask her to take a photo so you can post it here for your buddies...does she make sure the beer nuts and Bud is always stocked up too?!?!? :jk:

Lets just say she takes good care of me and leave it at that. :D

I got all my trigger mods done so the pull just over 2# going to work on that a bit to get it below 2#. Just need my scope and bedding kit and I'll be done. I can't wait!!

My wife would take the picture, but she wouldn't have a clue how to send it to me. She does keep the Bud stocked up.

Sweet looking gun Dad's got VB. Looks like yours will be just as sweet.
Maybe my next one.....
I'm enjoying tinkering with mine. I hadn't shot for about 3 years or so until I got the Browning. Shot at least 250 rounds through it last time I had it out. Never could do that with my .357.
