I could have sworn I saw a post where someone did this but my search skills suck today apparently.

Has anyone removed the windshield from their body and replaced it with screen or wire mesh for air flow with some debris protection? If so, could you post some details on the process used? Feel free to brainstorm guys, I'm open to ideas.

Wire mesh of and hot glue would work. Cut the mesh slightly larger than the opening, run a bead of hot glue to hold it in place. Voila!

The only reason I see for not doing this is if your tank access is like mine, and requires entry through the windshield.

I saw something awhile ago on rcplanet. A guy was selling them, but they were only for the t-maxx new version. I tried searching and finding them again, but i couldn't find them.

I wish my tank access was through the windshield... it's more like towards the center of the roof :(

I suppose I could cut out the side window but with that and a mesh windscreen I worry about the strength of the body.

True Value had some packs of wire mesh in 5x5 squares for a couple bucks. They work great for grills or whatever.

go to the dollar store and get a wire mess trash can. they are like 3 bux and you should have enough mesh to do about 20 rigs..

i would advise shoe goo to stick it on though. hot glue may soften up sitting right over the mill.

if your worried about the rigidness of the body, then do the whole cab area in mesh, that should give it some strength.

You guys both hit the nail on the head. I don't use shoe goo, so it never crossed my mind. All I know is that it's gotten quite a good reputation in the r/c world for repairing bodies when paired with that fiberglass tape stuff.

I also agree with meshing the entire cab if you're looking for strength. Too much air can be a bad thing though depending on ambient air temps, at least this time of year in Kentucky, lol.

That was exactly what I was looking for. You are all scholars and gentlemen.

Thanks for digging up the link and adding your 2 pesos. I knew if I posed a question here you wouldn't be able to resist.

I'm putting wire screens on my XTM Rage, its electric so i dont need them for air flow I just think that it will look good.
I'm going to use super glue to stick it on, do you think that it will be strong enough? or will it just fall off.

super glue is to brittle, one roll over and it will break off. you need something that will stay softer, like hot glue or shoe goo. so it flexes with the body in a crash

hey amoeba did you get the mesh in yet? just curious what you used, if you ended up using screen or wire mesh? just curious to see how it would look with actual screen

I used screen from my screen porch, I had some scrap lying around, and just did the front window. Put it in with air duct tape. Basically it is really sticky tin foil, but it molds in between the mesh of the screen so it turns out to work really well. Haven't had problems yet.

I haven't had a chance to put in any mesh yet. I'm waiting to pick up a new body for my first attempt at what could almost be called "painting". Depending on how ugly it turns out, it or the original body will become my wire mesh guinea pig.

I had the same idea a few years back and did the mesh on my Savage 25. Here are a couple pictures of it. Basically same idea. I think it lasted about six months or so until the lid gave out.

its a really nice idea it looks really sick on the bumper like paint it black it looks like realy car grill really nice

I used "gutter guards" They are the things you put over gutters to keep leaves and debris from clogging the up.
